Express condolences upon the death of John Emmett Boagni Jr. A RESOLUTION1 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of2 Louisiana upon the death of John Emmett Boagni Jr.3 WHEREAS, it is with great regret that the citizens of Louisiana have learned of the4 death of John E. Boagni Jr. on May 1, 2012, at the age of eighty-seven; and5 WHEREAS, he was a native and resident of Opelousas, Louisiana, and was a6 graduate of Opelousas High School "War Class" of 1942 and a 1949 graduate of Louisiana7 State University, College of Engineering; and 8 WHEREAS, he served his state and his country in the United States Navy with the9 Seabees during World War II, serving more than two years in the South Pacific, principally10 in the Marshal and Mariana Islands with the 67 th U.S.N. Construction Battalion; and11 WHEREAS, he was a licensed professional Civil Engineer and Land Surveyor, who12 was retired from the Louisiana State Department of Transportation and Development as13 Director of Maintenance and Field Operations after serving more than three decades in14 various engineering and administrative positions throughout the span of his career; and15 WHEREAS, John Emmett Boagni Jr. was a member of the American Society of Civil16 Engineers, American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials,17 Southeastern Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials, Louisiana Society18 SR NO. 126 SLS 12RS-3888 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 of Professional Engineers in Civil Service, and the Louisiana Highways Engineers1 Association; and2 WHEREAS, he will be remembered for his creativity, integrity, bravery, courage,3 and leadership skills; was a very skillful engineer; and was also gifted in the areas of4 computer science, photography, woodworking and painting; and5 WHEREAS, John Emmett Boagni Jr. was an exemplary and highly admired citizen6 of Louisiana who worked tirelessly on a multitude of business, civic, and political causes7 throughout his life; and8 WHEREAS, upon his death the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible9 mark upon the lives of all those who knew him; and10 WHEREAS, because of his numerous accomplishments in public and private life,11 the death of John Emmett Boagni Jr. has left a void in the state and in our country and has12 created a genuine sense of profound sorrow in his friends and family; and13 WHEREAS, he was a loving, devoted husband to Fleta Theresa Hollier Boagni for14 sixty-four years and a dedicated father, a committed grandfather and great grandfather whose15 love of family was of utmost importance in his life; and16 WHEREAS, the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana honors this extraordinary man17 who shall forever be remembered, and pays tribute to his remarkable legacy that shall live18 in the hearts of the many people whose lives he touched.19 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana20 does hereby honor the life of John Emmett Boagni Jr. and expresses its sincere condolences21 to his family upon the occasion of his death.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the23 family of John Emmett Boagni Jr.24 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Tammy Crain Waldrop.
