Commends the city of Abbeville on being named the state winner in the Louisiana Garden Club Federation's Cleanest City Contest. A RESOLUTION1 To commend the city of Abbeville on being named the state winner in the Louisiana Garden2 Club Federation's Cleanest City Contest.3 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend the city of Abbeville on being named state4 winner in the Cleanest City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of5 Louisiana; and6 WHEREAS, in 1958, the Louisiana Garden Club Federation was first among7 members of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., to sponsor a statewide Cleanest City Contest;8 and 9 WHEREAS, the aim of the contest is to instill civic pride in the individual citizens10 and thus improve the appearance of towns and cities; and11 WHEREAS, each year the competition has become stronger, and the cities and towns12 have achieved higher and higher standards of cleanliness; and13 WHEREAS, each municipality that competes in the contest must be sponsored by14 a garden club; and15 WHEREAS, Abbeville has a garden club that is twenty members strong; and16 WHEREAS, in 2012, Abbeville was awarded the distinguished designation of17 Cleanest City by the Louisiana Garden Club Federation, Inc.; and18 SR NO. 144 SLS 12RS-4554 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, it was a tremendous effort by everyone involved, which included a lot1 of volunteers, city workers, local Girl and Boy Scouts, the Abbeville Garden Club, the Keep2 Abbeville Beautiful initiative, the Cleanest City chairperson, Todd Travasos, the Vermilion3 Parish Sheriff, Mike Couvillion, the Abbeville Police Chief, Tony Hardy, the Vermilion4 Parish Police Jury, the mayor of Abbeville, Mark Piazza, the Abbeville city council Francis5 Touchet, Frank Plaisance, Brady Broussard Jr., Louis Joe Hardy and Wayne Landry, and a6 host of others.7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana8 does hereby commend the city of Abbeville on being named state winner in the Cleanest9 City Contest, and for being such a great reflection on the state of Louisiana.10 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the11 Vermilion Parish Police Jury, the mayor of Abbeville, and the Abbeville Garden Club.12 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by James Benton.
