SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 169
BY SENATOR PETERSON 
COMMENDATIONS.  Commends Ms. Bobbie Smith upon receipt of the Mary Steibel
CAREGiver of the Year Award for 2012.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Ms. Bobbie Smith of New Orleans, Louisiana, upon her receipt of the 20122
Mary Steibel CAREGiver of the Year Award in recognition of her outstanding work3
with senior adults.4
WHEREAS, it is with great sense of purpose that the Senate of the Legislature of5
Louisiana does recognize Bobbie Smith for the sincere concern that she exhibits toward the6
seniors placed in her care and her continuing efforts to improve the lives of older Americans;7
and8
WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith has been involved in the care of others since childhood,9
when she assisted her grandparents who visited and tended to the elderly in their community;10
and11
WHEREAS, during her professional career of caregiving, Bobbie Smith was director12
of the E. J. Morris Senior Citizens Center in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans; and13
WHEREAS, Ms. Smith has a very successful approach in that she first establishes14
a personal relationship with the client and then interacts with that elderly person to provide15
daily living assistance; and 16
WHEREAS, Ms. Smith was nominated for her many positive traits that include17
humor, warmth, spirituality, composure, and loving attitude; and 18 SR NO. 169

WHEREAS, she received national recognition for her work in April of this year, the1
Mary Steibel CAREGiver of the Year Award, at the Home Instead Senior Care International2
Convention in Omaha, Nebraska; selected from 65,000 nominees from the United States and3
abroad; and4
WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith continues to encourage, assist, and stimulate her clients5
in a variety of activities that improves their quality of life and helps them maintain6
independence while living safely and comfortably in their own residences for as long as7
possible; and8
WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith strives to enhance the quality of life for seniors, to9
encourage them to stay as active as possible, and to bring some happiness to each client10
whose life she touches; and11
WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith promotes a positive image of aging and brings joy and12
comfort to all of her contacts; even in death, she assures them that they are loved and are not13
alone; and14
WHEREAS, in her daily devotions Bobbie Smith gives thanks to her creator for the15
opportunity to make a difference in someone's life, to give comfort and a sense of peace to16
others, and to radiate God's love; and17
WHEREAS, Bobbie Smith is a working senior citizen, herself, who believes in the18
ethic that "Work is easy when you love what you do", which makes her life all the more19
extraordinary.20
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana21
does hereby commend Ms. Bobbie Smith upon her receipt of the Mary Steibel CAREGiver22
of the Year Award for her service to older adults in the Home Instead Senior Care network.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to24
