Commends the Girl Scouts of the USA on one hundred years of success in teaching Girl Scouts leadership skills, positive values, a strong sense of self and working with others to build healthy relationships in their communities. A RESOLUTION1 To commend the Girl Scouts of the USA on one hundred years of success in teaching Girl2 Scouts leadership skills, positive values, a strong sense of self and working with3 others to build healthy relationships in their communities.4 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA was founded March 12, 1912, and for the last5 one hundred years has developed girls of courage, confidence, and character, and who have6 played a vital role in making the world a better place for everyone; and 7 WHEREAS, in 2011-2012, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council8 served nearly eight thousand girls in six program levels as the council worked to accomplish9 its mission of making a positive difference in the world; and10 WHEREAS, through the guidance of trained adults, girls between the ages of five11 and seventeen are offered a variety of opportunities to explore numerous topics, including12 leadership, math, science, technology, health, fitness, sports, environmental education, the13 arts, and global awareness; and14 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA was chartered by the United States Congress15 on March 16, 1950, and has grown to nearly four million members throughout the United16 States and around the world; and17 WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest preeminent organization dedicated18 SR NO. 18 SLS 12RS-1199 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 to girls everywhere, helping them build character and gain skills for success in the real1 world; and2 WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest national award in Girl3 Scouting, with the highest national standards required to be nominated for the award and4 great expectations for those who have earned this distinction; and5 WHEREAS, Louisiana recipients of the 2012 Girl Scout Gold Award who will lead6 the way to become community leaders are Rachel Dorsey of Shreveport, Candace Schmidt7 and Elizabeth Shirly of Leesville, Aimee Granger of New Iberia, Kylie Scott of Breaux8 Bridge, and Vickie Pietz of Moss Bluff; and9 WHEREAS, Louisiana's Girl Scout Gold Award recipients and Girl Scouts10 everywhere are using this occasion of the one hundred year anniversary of scouting to salute11 and honor Juliette Gordon Low who founded the organization in Savannah, Georgia, on12 March 12, 1912, and forever changed the manner of young girls everywhere.13 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana14 does hereby extend its highest commendations to Louisiana's Girl Scout Gold Award15 recipients, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council, and Girl Scouts around16 the world who contribute to the worthy goals, missions, and initiatives of the Girl Scouts of17 the USA.18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the19 Girl Scouts of the USA and the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council.20 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Heyward Jeffers.
