Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 18 BY SENATOR WALSWORTH A RESOLUTION To commend the Girl Scouts of the USA on one hundred years of success in teaching Girl Scouts leadership skills, positive values, a strong sense of self and working with others to build healthy relationships in their communities. WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA was founded March 12, 1912, and for the last one hundred years has developed girls of courage, confidence, and character, and who have played a vital role in making the world a better place for everyone; and WHEREAS, in 2011-2012, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council served nearly eight thousand girls in six program levels as the council worked to accomplish its mission of making a positive difference in the world; and WHEREAS, through the guidance of trained adults, girls between the ages of five and seventeen are offered a variety of opportunities to explore numerous topics, including leadership, math, science, technology, health, fitness, sports, environmental education, the arts, and global awareness; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA was chartered by the United States Congress on March 16, 1950, and has grown to nearly four million members throughout the United States and around the world; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of the USA is the largest preeminent organization dedicated to girls everywhere, helping them build character and gain skills for success in the real world; and WHEREAS, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest national award in Girl Scouting, with the highest national standards required to be nominated for the award and great expectations for those who have earned this distinction; and SR NO. 18 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Louisiana recipients of the 2012 Girl Scout Gold Award who will lead the way to become community leaders are Rachel Dorsey of Shreveport, Candace Schmidt and Elizabeth Shirly of Leesville, Aimee Granger of New Iberia, Kylie Scott of Breaux Bridge, and Vickie Pietz of Moss Bluff; and WHEREAS, Louisiana's Girl Scout Gold Award recipients and Girl Scouts everywhere are using this occasion of the one hundred year anniversary of scouting to salute and honor Juliette Gordon Low who founded the organization in Savannah, Georgia, on March 12, 1912, and forever changed the manner of young girls everywhere. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby extend its highest commendations to Louisiana's Girl Scout Gold Award recipients, the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council, and Girl Scouts around the world who contribute to the worthy goals, missions, and initiatives of the Girl Scouts of the USA. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Girl Scouts of the USA and the Girl Scouts of Louisiana-Pines to the Gulf Council. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
