Requests the Senate president to appoint a committee to study funding mechanisms, improvements and promotion of Louisiana state parks. A RESOLUTION1 To urge and request the Senate president to appoint a committee to study funding2 mechanisms, improvement, and promotion of Louisiana state parks, in conjunction3 with the strategic plan adopted by the office of state parks.4 WHEREAS, the office of state parks is a division of the Department of Culture,5 Recreation, and Tourism; and6 WHEREAS, in 2011, the office adopted a five-year strategic plan with the program7 goal to "increase and improve the focus on Louisiana's vast natural resources for all8 Louisiana citizens and visitors to enjoy through planning, constructing and operating a9 system of parks, historic sites and preservation areas in accordance with the highest10 standards of management, interpretation and conservation"; and11 WHEREAS, according to its strategic plan, the office "strives for: coordination12 between agencies, allied interests, and user groups; professional training and competence13 of its personnel; exemplary planning, design, construction and maintenance of its facilities;14 active development and use of interpretation and reaction programs; and development of15 a stable funding base to provide maintaining continuity of facility, program, and personnel16 quality."17 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana18 SR NO. 186 SLS 12RS-4919 DRAFT 6/3/12 4:37 PM Copy of SR186 Original (rev 0).wpd Page 2 of 2 does hereby request the Senate president to appoint a committee to study funding1 mechanisms, improvement, and promotion of Louisiana state parks, in conjunction with the2 strategic plan adopted by the office of state parks.3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall consist of five senators4 appointed by the Senate president, including at least two members of the Senate Committee5 on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International Affairs.6 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism,7 and the office of state parks shall provide technical assistance to the committee.8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the committee shall make a written report of its9 findings to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Consumer Protection, and International10 Affairs by March 1, 2013.11 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Alan Miller.
