COMMENDATIONS. Commends United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Mark J.
Sorapuru on his assuming command of the 7

Space Warning Squadron.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Mark J. Sorapuru on his assuming2
command of the 7
th
Space Warning Squadron.3
WHEREAS, Mark J. Sorapuru, son of Murray J. Sorapuru and Priscilla Duplessis,4
is a native of Marrero, Louisiana, and a graduate of West Jefferson High School; and5
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Sorapuru received his degree from the College of Education at6
the University of New Orleans and is a graduate of the United States Naval War College in7
Newport, Rhode Island; and8
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Sorapuru married a New Orleans native, Ramona Traigle9
Sorapuru, the daughter of Jane Burgin and Alvin Traigle and a graduate of Riverdale High10
School; and11
WHEREAS, Lt. Col. Sorapuru and his wife, Mona, during a highly successful12
military career, have been blessed with two healthy children, Abigail Ann and Mark Joseph13
Sorapuru; and14
WHEREAS, Mona received her degree from the College of Education at the15
University of New Orleans, and served as the Catholic Religious Education Coordinator at16
Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and17
WHEREAS, the 7
th
Space Warning Squadron is the missile warning and missile18 SR NO. 187

defense for the entire West coast of North, Central and South America; and1
WHEREAS, the 7
th
Space Warning Squadron's mission is also space tracking of2
thousands of objects in space from satellites to space debris, as well as cataloging and3
reporting the objects rate of speed and size to NASA and the Air Force Space Command to4
ensure safe launching of satellites and astronauts during space missions; and5
WHEREAS, the 7
th
Space Warning Squadron's mission is vital and provides advice6
to our nation and our allies in order to detect threats to our national space assets and our7
national security; and8
WHEREAS, Colonel Jennifer C. Moore, Commander of the 21
st
Operations Group9
will host a change of command ceremony on June 15
th
, 2012, at Beale Air Force Base,10
California, during which Lt. Col. Scott M. Schroff will transfer command of the 7
th
Space11
Warning Squadron to Lt. Col. Sorapuru; and12
WHEREAS, that same day, Mona Sorapuru assumes the honor of becoming the 7
th

Space Warning Squadron's First Lady.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana15
does hereby extend its highest commendations to, and takes great pride in congratulating16
United States Air Force Lt. Col. Mark J. Sorapuru as he takes command of the 7
th
Space17
Warning Squadron and continues to render his outstanding service to our nation.18
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Lt.19
Col. Mark J. Sorapuru.20
