Commends George Kyle Morris upon completing the requirements and earning the ranking of Eagle Scout. A RESOLUTION1 To commend George Kyle Morris upon completing the requirements and earning the2 ranking of Eagle Scout.3 WHEREAS, the purpose of the Boy Scouts of America, incorporated on February4 8, 1910, and chartered by the United States Congress in 1916, is to provide an educational5 program for boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibilities of6 participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness; and7 WHEREAS, to earn the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest rank in scouting, a Boy8 Scout must fulfill all requirements in the areas of leadership, service, and outdoor skills, and9 the Eagle Scout must earn twenty-one Merit Badges which signify the mastery of scoutcraft10 skills, including Citizenship in the Community, Citizenship in the Nation, and Citizenship11 in the World; and12 WHEREAS, only a small percentage of Boy Scouts earn the Eagle Scout rank,13 illustrating that it takes a uniquely motivated young man like George Kyle Morris to strive14 to embody the five integral responsibilities of an Eagle Scout, which are honor, loyalty,15 courage, cheer, and service; and16 WHEREAS, being presented with his Eagle Scout badge, Eagle Scout Morris joins17 the ranks of such esteemed and respected Eagle Scouts as the Honorable Gerald R. Ford, the18 SR NO. 20 SLS 12RS-1046 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 thirty-eighth president of the United States; Captain James Lovell, commander of the Apollo1 13 space flight; Neil Armstrong, commander of Apollo 11, who gained the distinction of2 being the first man to walk on the moon; Steven Spielberg, movie producer/director; and3 Henry Aaron, baseball player and home run king; and4 WHEREAS, the legacy of the Boy Scouts of America is rich indeed, for it not only5 includes a history of service and proud citizenship which spans nearly a century, it includes6 the momentous and singular accomplishments of George Kyle Morris who is recognized and7 commended for his deep human values, the genuine spirit of good fellowship that he8 inspires, and his service as a fine example of hard work and integrity in the eyes of future9 Eagle Scouts and his entire community.10 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana11 does hereby commend and honor George Kyle Morris upon achieving the rank of Eagle12 Scout because he walks an honorable path along the Eagle Scout trail, does hereby express13 utmost gratitude and respect for the exemplary strides he has taken as a scout and citizen,14 does hereby congratulate Eagle Scout Morris and the members and leaders of Troop 80 as15 they commemorate the most significant and unforgettable event when George Kyle Morris16 pledged his eternal loyalty to the code of the Eagle Scout, and does hereby wish him full17 measures of success and happiness in the years to come.18 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be presented to Eagle19 Scout, George Kyle Morris.20 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Tammy Crain Waldrop.
