SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 62

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of Avis Chelette Jones.
A RESOLUTION1
To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of2
Louisiana upon the death of Avis Chelette Jones.3
WHEREAS, it is with great sorrow that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana4
has learned of the death of Avis Chelette Jones; and5
WHEREAS, Mrs. Jones passed away at her home in Cloutierville on March 28, 2012,6
at the age of ninety; and7
WHEREAS, she is preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Eva Chelette; her8
husband, Victor Jones Sr.; her sisters, Mavis LaCour and Everette; one brother, Frank9
Chelette; and a grandson, Chad Jones; and10
WHEREAS, she is survived by her six children, Yvonne Jones, Peggy Braxton,11
Victor Jones Jr., Jerry "Pete" Jones, Rita Jones, and Pat Roque; two stepchildren, Kenneth12
Metoyer and Susie Brooks; two sisters, Irene Johnson and Gertrude Chelette; nineteen13
grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and14
friends; and15
WHEREAS, Avis Chelette Jones was a woman of wisdom who used her talents,16
integrity, and passion to change her community and state for the better; and17
WHEREAS, upon her death, the world lost a unique individual who left an indelible18 SR NO. 62

mark upon the lives of all those who knew her; and1
WHEREAS, because of her numerous accomplishments in public and private life,2
the death of Avis Chelette Jones has left a void in her community and has created a genuine3
sense of profound sorrow in her friends and family; and4
WHEREAS, the memory of Avis Chelette Jones will remain eternal in the hearts and5
minds of her family, friends, and all of those whose lives she touched and who loved her.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana7
does hereby express its sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Avis Chelette8
Jones.9
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the10
family of Avis Chelette Jones.11
