A RESOLUTION1 To express condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana on behalf of its2 members to the family of Cecil James Hebert.3 WHEREAS, it is with sadness that we have learned of the passing of Cecil James4 Hebert on April 17, 2012; and5 WHEREAS, Cecil James Hebert, born April 8, 1945, at the Kaplan Clinic was a life-6 long resident of Vermilion Parish who attended Maurice Elementary and graduated from7 Maurice High School in 1963; and8 WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert received a Bachelor of Science degree in May, 1967,9 majoring in vocational agriculture education, and earned a Master of Education degree at10 McNeese State University with a major in administration and supervision and a minor in11 health and physical education; and12 WHEREAS, Cecil taught biology, science and chemistry as a classroom teacher in13 the parishes of Lafourche and Vermilion, developed many vocational agriculture education14 projects as a secondary teacher, and won the Louisiana Vocational Agriculture Teacher Idea15 Unlimited Contest; and16 WHEREAS, known to other faculty members as "Mr. Fix It" because of his ability17 to troubleshoot and solve varied problems with equipment and machinery; and18 SR NO. 64 SLS 12RS-2699 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, following a family tragedy in 1980, Cecil became a self-employed rice,1 soybean and crawfish farmer operating and managing a two thousand acre farm with his2 father, William Hebert, and brother, Dane Hebert; and3 WHEREAS, due to changing economics of the area in the 1980s, Mr. Hebert became4 the owner and operator of a White Farm equipment dealership in Abbeville, Louisiana, was5 a permit agent for Cajun Exploration Company, worked as an administrative assistant for6 the Vermilion Parish Farm Bureau Federation where he was recognized for the Best7 Agriculture Weekly Farm Bureau Report, and was also employed as an educational8 representative for Universal Technical Institute; and9 WHEREAS, elected as a member of the Vermilion Parish School Board from 1990-10 1998 and serving as vice president of the board, Cecil was also principal of Maltrait11 Memorial Catholic School in Kaplan for six year, and was selected as Outstanding Principal12 in the Diocese of Lafayette before returning to full-time teaching in the parishes of Lafayette13 and Acadia until his retirement in 2009; and14 WHEREAS, married for forty-three years to his loving wife Gayle Ann Ledet15 Hebert, Mr. Hebert is also survived by two sons, Blair James Hebert and wife Michelle Lege16 Hebert, Trent James Hebert, and one daughter, Laury Ann Hebert Rush and husband John17 Watters Rush II, and six grandchildren: Avery Claire Hebert, Olivia Grace Hebert, Amelia18 Grace Hebert, Logan James Rush, Ethan James Hebert, and Madeline Gayle Rush; and19 WHEREAS, preceded in death by his parents, Wilbert Pierre Hebert and Laura Belle20 Bonin Hebert, Cecil is survived by four of his nine siblings, Brenda Faye Hebert21 Desormeaux and husband Harris, Dane Louis Hebert and wife Lisa, Jan Lee Hebert Meaders22 and husband David, and Bonnie Jean Hebert Brown and husband Rusty; and23 WHEREAS, Cecil James Hebert was engaged in many professional and religious24 activities which included serving as president of the Vermilion Teachers Association; a25 member of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association; a26 member of the Board of Directors for the greater Abbeville Chamber of Commerce and the27 education committee; president of the St. Alphonsus Church Council; trustee of the St.28 Alphonsus Catholic Church; Deputy Knight of the Maurice Knights of Columbus; and29 served as Eucharistic Minister at Holy Rosary-Cabrini Catholic Church in Kaplan; and 30 SR NO. 64 SLS 12RS-2699 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Hebert throughout his life realized the importance of community1 involvement and service to God as taught to him by his mother and realized that the true2 measure of a man was not his accolades on earth but the legacy one leaves after his passing.3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana4 offers it condolences to the family of Cecil James Hebert and acknowledges his many5 educational and religious contributions and activities to the citizens of his community and6 the people of Louisiana.7 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the8 family of Cecil James Hebert.9 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Thomas L.
