SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 65

CONDOLENCES.  Expresses condolences upon the death of David Ortemond Jr.
A RESOLUTION1
To express the sincere condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the2
death of David Ortemond Jr.3
WHEREAS, a native of Abbeville, Louisiana and life-long resident of Louisiana, Mr.4
Ortemond was a graduate of Erath High School and held a bachelor's degree from the5
University of Louisiana at Lafayette; and6
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond played linebacker for the University of Louisiana at7
Lafayette on the football team from 1990 to 1994; and8
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond was a member of the Granite State semi-pro football9
team from 1996 to 1997; and10
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond began his working career with Mar-Con, Inc., an oilfield11
company founded by his father, Leon D. Ortemond Sr. from 1996 through 2003, he held12
numerous positions as director of transportation, personnel, marine division supervisor, and13
yard supervisor with Mar-Con, Inc.; and14
WHEREAS, from 2003 until the time of his death, he worked side by side with his15
father, and family members as marine manager with D & L Salvage and other Marine16
Family of Companies; and17
WHEREAS, his advocation and enthusiasm for offshore powerboat racing gained18 SR NO. 65

him high recognition and admiration in the sport through the Gulf south; and1
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond was an active member of the Florida Powerboat Club2
and maintained a focus on the technical advancement and development of the power boating3
and marine industry; and4
WHEREAS, he thrived on being a perfectionist not only in the passion of power5
boating but also with his family, friends and his general life; and6
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond possessed a true zest for life and steadfast commitment7
to his family especially his adoring nieces; and8
WHEREAS, with an impact on so many lives, there seemingly was no stranger Mr.9
Ortemond did not know; and10
WHEREAS, with a positive and giving spirit, it was evident by all who knew him,11
that he garnered much love and respect; and12
WHEREAS, Mr. Ortemond is survived by his fiancée, Sandy Patout, his mother,13
Diana Romero Ortemond, a brother, Lance David Ortemond and his wife Kelly, his sister,14
Christina Franques and her husband Andre, six nieces Mary Catherine, Anna Grace, Jeanne15
Claire, Caroline Elizabeth, Laura Anne, and Catherine Clare; and16
WHEREAS, he entered his heavenly life along with his father, Leon D. Ortemond17
Sr., and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Laura Leblanc Romero and18
Frank F. Romero; and19
WHEREAS, all who knew, met and loved David Ortemond Jr. will remember his20
smile, dedication to work and family, his strength and encouraging words, and loving spirit.21
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana22
does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of David Ortemond23
Jr. and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this wonderful24
man will forever bring to his family, fiancée, nieces, and numerous friends.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the26
family of Mr. David Ortemond Jr.27 SR NO. 65
