SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 77

COMMENDATIONS. To commend Xavier University Preparatory School on its
commitment to excellence and exemplary achievement.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Xavier University Preparatory School on its commitment to excellence and2
exemplary achievement.3
WHEREAS, Xavier University Preparatory School inherits a tradition of high quality4
Catholic education from St. Katharine Drexel; and5
WHEREAS, St. Katharine Drexel founded the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament for6
members who would work for the betterment of those they were called to serve; and7
WHEREAS, from age thirty-three until her death in 1955, St. Katharine Drexel8
dedicated her life and fortune of twenty million dollars to this work, taking part in opening9
the first mission school in Santa Fe, New Mexico; and10
WHEREAS, in 1915, she founded Xavier University Preparatory School (X.U.P.)11
in New Orleans, Louisiana; and12
WHEREAS, X.U.P. bases its philosophy on the belief that the total educational13
program nurtures and challenges the students, each of whom have unique gifts and talents;14
and15
WHEREAS, the focus of its programs is the development of Christian girls through16
a harmonious blending of their spiritual, moral, intellectual, emotional and physical17

WHEREAS, X.U.P. cultivates individual self-esteem and encourages students to1
improve their local and global communities; and2
WHEREAS, the school devotes its mission along with the preparation of students to3
live with compassion, dignity and responsibility in a constantly evolving world, and includes4
preparation for a variety of post-secondary options; and5
WHEREAS, a strong discipline program, a challenging curriculum, varied co-6
curricular activities and a community service program provide an integrated means for7
fulfilling this mission; and8
WHEREAS, X.U.P. offers a college preparatory education to female students in9
grades seven through twelve; and10
WHEREAS, Xavier University Preparatory School has been noted twice as an11
exemplary secondary school of excellence, awarded by the United States Department of12
Education and has received recognition for an ideal curriculum.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana14
does hereby commend Xavier University Preparatory School on its commitment to15
excellence and exemplary achievement.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to17
Xavier University Preparatory School.18
