Commends senior quarterback, Jordan Jefferson, of the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers Football Team, on his outstanding collegiate football career and a remarkable season in 2011. A RESOLUTION1 To commend Jordan Jefferson, senior quarterback of the Louisiana State University Fighting2 Tigers Football Team, and to congratulate him on his outstanding collegiate football3 career.4 WHEREAS, native son, Jordan Jamal Jefferson, excelled athletically at Destrehan5 High School contributing to a 15-0 winning season his senior year; and6 WHEREAS, Jefferson proved early on to be an exceptional player who garnered7 numerous honors that included being named a high school All-American, a Top 208 quarterback, a Top 10 pro-style quarterback, and named to the LHSA Class 5-A First Team9 and as the Class 5-A Offensive Player of the Year for 2007; and10 WHEREAS, with his agile athletic performance and precise passing ability, he was11 one of Louisiana's very best college prospects in 2007 with an impressive high school career12 record of 21-0 in games in which he started; and13 WHEREAS, upon arrival at LSU, wearing number nine, Jefferson was an14 extraordinarily talented true freshman quarterback who started games beginning at15 mid-season, passed for 419 yards, rushed for 134 yards, and led the Tigers to a 38-3 upset16 over Georgia Tech in the 2008 Chick-fil-A Bowl and was selected as the game's Most17 Valuable Player; and18 SR NO. 8 SLS 12RS-56 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, throughout his sophomore and junior years, Jefferson earned the status1 of "starting quarterback" and continued to excel with steady improvement in his stats,2 passing as well as running with the ball, and gained the distinction as one of the youngest3 starting quarterbacks in the SEC who scored touchdowns against arch rivals that included4 the likes of Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi State; and5 WHEREAS, in his junior year, Jordan Jefferson was named SEC Offensive Player6 of the Week in the Ole Miss game passing for 254 yards, rushing for 45 yards, and7 completing 13 of 17 passes; and8 WHEREAS, while his senior year got off to a rocky start, Jefferson and the Tigers9 rallied and continued to collect wins, and at Week 11, won a well fought victory in what was10 touted in the sports media as, "The Game of the Century," as the No. 1 LSU Tigers went up11 against the No. 2 ranked team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU's major nemesis in the SEC;12 and13 WHEREAS, having completed an undefeated regular season with a convincing win14 over the Arkansas Razorbacks and confirming the LSU Tigers No. 1 SEC ranking, Jefferson15 led the charge against Georgia, the leader in the Eastern Division, on December 3, 2011, in16 Atlanta's Georgia Dome and secured the 2011 SEC Championship for the Tigers; and17 WHEREAS, 2011 was a magical season, filled with many hard-fought triumphs on18 the gridiron, Jordan Jefferson ended the regular season ranked seventeenth in the SEC in19 passing with 654 yards and a career passing record of over 5,000 yards, while also holding20 the title of LSU's all-time career rushing quarterback; and21 WHEREAS, he focused his remarkable talents and determination to culminate his22 collegiate career in a dynamic winning season, a perfect undefeated season of 12 wins and23 no losses, and clinched a berth in the BCS National Championship Bowl played in24 New Orleans on January 9, 2012, to face Alabama once again; and25 WHEREAS, in the adversarial competition of collegiate sports, it is the culmination26 of successes that defines a career, during his time at LSU, Jordan Jefferson attained many27 awards that include the Jim Taylor Award for 2010, however there are other accolades to his28 credit that include his proven leadership status as team co-captain and the distinction of29 defeating eight of 25 top-ranked teams in Division 1 football in 2011; and30 SR NO. 8 SLS 12RS-56 ORIGINAL Page 3 of 3 WHEREAS, on Senior Day a humble Jordan Jefferson thanked his family, coaches,1 and teammates for their support and expressed his gratitude for the opportunities afforded2 him during his four years at LSU; and3 WHEREAS, with his outstanding contributions to LSU's SEC championship season,4 Jordan Jefferson forged an exceptional collegiate career and made a significant impact on5 the history of LSU Fighting Tigers football and he will forever remain in the minds and6 hearts of Tiger fans everywhere.7 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana8 does hereby commend and congratulate Jordan Jefferson for upholding the glorious9 traditions of the Purple and Gold, for a superb winning season in 2011, for an exemplary10 collegiate football career, and for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful young11 man has brought to Louisiana State University and to the great state of Louisiana.12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Jordan Jefferson experiences continued success13 with a prosperous future ahead.14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to15 Jordan Jefferson.16 The original instrument and the following digest, which constitutes no part of the legislative instrument, were prepared by Suzi Montague.
