Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2012 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 8 BY SENATOR DORSEY-COLOMB A RESOLUTION To commend Jordan Jefferson, senior quarterback of the Louisiana State University Fighting Tigers Football Team, and to congratulate him on his outstanding collegiate football career. WHEREAS, native son, Jordan Jamal Jefferson, excelled athletically at Destrehan High School contributing to a 15-0 winning season his senior year; and WHEREAS, Jefferson proved early on to be an exceptional player who garnered numerous honors that included being named a high school All-American, a Top 20 quarterback, a Top 10 pro-style quarterback, and named to the LHSA Class 5-A First Team and as the Class 5-A Offensive Player of the Year for 2007; and WHEREAS, with his agile athletic performance and precise passing ability, he was one of Louisiana's very best college prospects in 2007 with an impressive high school career record of 21-0 in games in which he started; and WHEREAS, upon arrival at LSU, wearing number nine, Jefferson was an extraordinarily talented true freshman quarterback who started games beginning at mid-season, passed for 419 yards, rushed for 134 yards, and led the Tigers to a 38-3 upset over Georgia Tech in the 2008 Chick-fil-A Bowl and was selected as the game's Most Valuable Player; and WHEREAS, throughout his sophomore and junior years, Jefferson earned the status of "starting quarterback" and continued to excel with steady improvement in his stats, passing as well as running with the ball, and gained the distinction as one of the youngest starting quarterbacks in the SEC who scored touchdowns against arch rivals that included the likes of Arkansas, Alabama, and Mississippi State; and WHEREAS, in his junior year, Jordan Jefferson was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week in the Ole Miss game passing for 254 yards, rushing for 45 yards, and completing 13 of 17 passes; and SR NO. 8 ENROLLED Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, while his senior year got off to a rocky start, Jefferson and the Tigers rallied and continued to collect wins, and at Week 11, won a well fought victory in what was touted in the sports media as, "The Game of the Century," as the No. 1 LSU Tigers went up against the No. 2 ranked team, the Alabama Crimson Tide, LSU's major nemesis in the SEC; and WHEREAS, having completed an undefeated regular season with a convincing win over the Arkansas Razorbacks and confirming the LSU Tigers' No. 1 SEC ranking, Jefferson led the charge against Georgia, the leader in the Eastern Division, on December 3, 2011, in Atlanta's Georgia Dome and secured the 2011 SEC Championship for the Tigers; and WHEREAS, 2011 was a magical season, filled with many hard-fought triumphs on the gridiron, Jordan Jefferson ended the regular season ranked seventeenth in the SEC in passing with 654 yards and a career passing record of over 5,000 yards, while also holding the title of LSU's all-time career rushing quarterback; and WHEREAS, he focused his remarkable talents and determination to culminate his collegiate career in a dynamic winning season, a perfect undefeated season of 12 wins and no losses, and clinched a berth in the BCS National Championship Bowl played in New Orleans on January 9, 2012, to face Alabama once again; and WHEREAS, in the adversarial competition of collegiate sports, it is the culmination of successes that defines a career, during his time at LSU, Jordan Jefferson attained many awards that include the Jim Taylor Award for 2010, however there are other accolades to his credit that include his proven leadership status as team co-captain and the distinction of defeating eight of 25 top-ranked teams in Division 1 football in 2011; and WHEREAS, on Senior Day, a humble Jordan Jefferson thanked his family, coaches, and teammates for their support and expressed his gratitude for the opportunities afforded him during his four years at LSU; and WHEREAS, with his outstanding contributions to LSU's SEC championship season, Jordan Jefferson forged an exceptional collegiate career and made a significant impact on the history of LSU Fighting Tigers football and he will forever remain in the minds and hearts of Tiger fans everywhere. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana SR NO. 8 ENROLLED Page 3 of 3 does hereby commend and congratulate Jordan Jefferson for upholding the glorious traditions of the Purple and Gold, for a superb winning season in 2011, for an exemplary collegiate football career, and for the tremendous pride and honor that this wonderful young man has brought to Louisiana State University and to the great state of Louisiana. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Jordan Jefferson experiences continued success with a prosperous future ahead. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Jordan Jefferson.
