SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 86

COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary, György
Szapáry, on his accomplishments in international banking and finance and welcomes him
to the Louisiana Senate.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Ambassador of the Republic of Hungary to the United States of America,2
György Szapáry, and to welcome him to the Louisiana Senate.3
WHEREAS, upon the occasion of his visit to Louisiana, it is appropriate to commend4
and welcome György Szapáry of Hungary; and5
WHEREAS, Mr. Szapáry is an economist by trade with extensive experience in6
international finance and banking; and7
WHEREAS, he was born into a prominent family in Tiszabura, Hungary, and is the8
grandson of a former prime minister of Hungary; and9
WHEREAS, he holds a master's degree and a doctorate in economics from the10
University of Louvain in Belgium; and11
WHEREAS, he began his career as a research assistant at the University of Louvain12
in 1962 and, subsequently, held executive positions with several prestigious international13
financial organizations including the European Commission, the International Monetary14
Fund, the National Bank of Hungary, and OTP Bank in Hungary; and15
WHEREAS, Mr. Szapáry was also the alternate governor for the European Bank for16
Reconstruction and Development, president of the Board of Directors for the International17
Training Centre for Bankers in Budapest, a board member of the Budapest Commodity18 SR NO. 86

Exchange; president of the Foundation for Enterprise Promotion for the Hungarian province1
of Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok, a member of the Economic and Financial Committee of the2
European Commission and of the European Central Bank's International Relations3
Committee, and a member of the Hungarian Economic Social Council; and4
WHEREAS, he has been a member of the Advisory Council for the European Studies5
Foundation in Budapest since 2002, a member of the Euro 50 Group since 2001, a member6
of the Gyula Andrássy Foundation in Budapest since 2006, and a member of a steering group7
on public finances for the European Commission in Brussels; and8
WHEREAS, in January 2011, he was appointed Hungarian Ambassador to the United9
States of America; and10
WHEREAS, it is appropriate that a special measure of commendation be extended11
to György Szapáry as he is welcomed with the utmost admiration and respect to the12
Louisiana Senate.13
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana14
does hereby commend György Szapáry for his outstanding contributions to the international15
banking and finance industry, welcomes him to the Louisiana Senate, and extends to him16
best wishes for continued success and happiness in all future endeavors.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to18
György Szapáry.19
