COMMENDATIONS. To commend Robert William Blackwell for signing a free agent
contract with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend and congratulate Robert William Blackwell for signing a free agent contract2
with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League.3
WHEREAS, Robert William Blackwell has set himself among the stars of Louisiana4
football; and5
WHEREAS, born on January 24, 1989, in Shreveport to Jimmy and Sara Blackwell,6
Will showed his athletic prowess and competitive spirit from an early age; and7
WHEREAS, he attended West Monroe High School where he played his sophomore8
through senior years and was named twice to the Class 5A All-State First Team; and9
WHEREAS, during his high school career he was rated in 2007 among the best10
defensive lineman in the nation by Rivals.com, was a member of the Baton Rouge Super11
Dozen, New Orleans Times Picayune's Blue-Chip List, and the Atlanta Journal-Constitution12
Super Southern 100; and13
WHEREAS, upon graduating from high school, he chose to attend Louisiana State14
University and was a star player for the champion Fighting Tigers, playing in forty-two15
games with sixteen starts and earning a spot on first team All-American honors in the 201116
season for helping to lead LSU to a 13-1 overall mark and a number two final ranking, and17
was voted one of five permanent team captains for that season; and18 SR NO. 98

WHEREAS, his many successes and outstanding football career have been made all1
the better by the love and support of his family and friends, especially his lovely fiancée,2
Laura Lenox Cummings, whom he will marry on Sunday, May 6
th
, in Monroe; and3
WHEREAS, an indomitable talent, Will Blackwell continues his football career as4
a professional player after signing a free agent contract with the Carolina Panthers of the5
National Football League.6
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana7
does hereby commend and congratulate Robert William Blackwell for his distinguished8
career as a talented offensive lineman, and for his recent move into professional football9
playing for the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League, and does hereby wish him10
many victories on the field and many successes in his future endeavors.11
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to12
Robert William Blackwell.13
