LOCAL EMPLOYEES/MUNIC: Requires a parish or municipality to provide social security coverage for any of its officials or employees who are not in a public retirement system AN ACT1 To enact Part VI of Chapter 2 of Title 33 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950, to be2 comprised of R.S. 33:1271, relative to parish and municipal employment; to require3 coverage of certain positions by social security; and to provide for related matters.4 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5 Section 1. Part VI of Chapter 2 of Title 33 of the Louisiana Revised Statutes of 1950,6 comprised of R.S. 33:1271, is hereby enacted to read as follows:7 PART VI. LOCAL GOVERNMENT EMPLOYMENT8 ยง1271. Coverage by social security required for certain positions9 The governing authority of a parish or municipality shall enter an agreement10 to provide social security coverage for each elective office and each position of11 parish or municipal employment that is filled by a full-time employee if such officer12 or employee is not an active contributing member of a public retirement system,13 plan, or fund. The governing authority shall fulfill all employer obligations with14 respect to coverage of such positions by the social security system. Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not1 signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature2 by the governor, as provided in Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If3 vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become4 effective on the day following such approval.5 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
