[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] LeBas HB No. 355 Abstract: Adds certain delegates to the persons authorized to access state prescription monitoring program information. Present law establishes the state prescription monitoring system, an electronic system for the monitoring of controlled substances and other drugs of concern that are dispensed in the state or dispensed to an address within the state. Proposed law retains present law. Present law provides that, except as provided in present law, prescription monitoring information submitted to the La. Board of Pharmacy shall be protected health information, not subject to public or open records law and not subject to disclosure. Proposed law retains present law. Present law provides that persons authorized to prescribe or dispense controlled substances or drugs of concern, after successful completion of the required educational courses, may access prescription monitoring information for the purpose of providing medical or pharmaceutical care for their patients or for verifying their prescribing records.
