MTR VEHICLE/LICEN PLATES. Creates the Free and Accepted Mason prestige
license plate. (8/1/13)
DIGEST
Proposed law requires the secretary of the Dept. of Public Safety and Corrections to establish
a motor vehicle special prestige license plate to be known as the "Free and Accepted Mason"
plate, provided there is a minimum of 1,000 applicants for such plate. This license plate will
be restricted to passenger cars, pickup trucks, recreational vehicles, and vans.
Proposed law specifies that the color and design of the plate shall be selected by the Free and
Accepted Mason Ionic Lodge Number 26 of Lake Charles, La.
Proposed law provides that the prestige license plate shall be issued, upon application, to any
member of the Free and Accepted Masons, upon verification of valid organization
membership, in the same manner as any other motor vehicle license plate.
Proposed law establishes a royalty fee of $25 for the "Free and Accepted Mason" license
plate and authorizes a handling fee of $3.50 to be retained by the department.
Proposed law requires the secretary to adopt rules and regulations to implement the
provisions provided in proposed law.
Effective date August 1, 2013.
