CRIME: Provides relative to the annual report on criminal statistics published by the
Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Criminal
Justice
AN ACT1
To amend and reenact R.S. 15:1204.2(B)(8)(a) and (c), relative to the duties of the Louisiana2
Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Criminal Justice; to3
provide with respect to an annual report containing criminal statistics; to provide for4
the distribution of such reports; and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1. R.S. 15:1204.2(B)(8)(a) and (c) are hereby amended and reenacted to read7
as follows: 8

B. The system, by and through the commission, shall have the following11
functions, powers, and duties:12

(8)(a) To present annually to the governor and members of the legislature,14
on or before May first, a printed report containing the criminal statistics of the15
preceding most recently available calendar year and to present at such other times16
as the commission may deem wise, or the governor, or the chairman of the House17

Committee on Judiciary C may request, reports on special aspects of criminal1
statistics.2

(c) A sufficient number of copies of all reports shall be printed for4
distribution to the governor, the chairman of the House Committee on5
Administration of Criminal Justice, and the chairman of the Senate Committee on6
Judiciary C, and as many others as may be requested.  The report shall be made7
available electronically on the commission's website to all public officials in the state8
dealing with crimes or criminals and for general distribution in the interest of public9
enlightenment.10

Abstract: Requires the La. Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of
Criminal Justice to distribute criminal statistic reports in printed form to the governor
and certain legislative committee chairmen, and provides for the electronic
distribution of those reports to other public officials.
Present law requires the La. Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of
Criminal Justice to present annual printed reports containing criminal statistics of the
preceding year to the governor and members of the legislature.  Further requires the
commission to print a sufficient number of reports for all public officials dealing with crimes
or criminals and for general distribution.
Proposed law requires the commission to present such reports for the most recently available
calendar year. Further requires the commission to print copies for distribution to the
governor, certain legislative committee chairman, and others who request a report, and
authorizes the dissemination of the report on the commission's website to other public
officials and for general distribution.
