[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] Simon HB No. 582 Abstract: Requires access aisles to have the phrase "No Parking" written upon the pavement. Present law requires each state agency and political subdivision having jurisdiction over a public facility and each owner or lessee of a private facility to provide and maintain a minimum number of specially designed and marked motor vehicle parking spaces for the exclusive use of persons whose vehicles are identified by license plates, hang tags, or special parking cards for the mobility impaired. Present law further requires the mobility-impaired parking spaces to adhere to the ADA Standards and to include mobility-impaired loading and unloading areas, access aisles, access ramps, and curb cuts. Proposed law retains present law. Proposed law requires, in addition to the ADA Standards specifications, each access aisle, or any other area of the pavement adjacent to a parking space reserved for mobility-impaired persons that is designated for the loading and unloading of vehicles parked in the space, shall have the phrase "NO PARKING" written upon the pavement area using letters that are not less than twelve inches tall. Proposed law provides that violations of proposed law shall be shall be fined not more than $500 or imprisoned for not more than six months, or both. Proposed law applies to all parking spaces newly constructed or existing parking spaces whose markings are repainted after the effective date of proposed law. (Adds R.S. 40:1742(A)(4))
