Abstract: Exempts law enforcement officers from the crime of carrying a firearm or dangerous
weapon on school property.
Present law provides for the crime of carrying a firearm or dangerous weapon by a student or
nonstudent on school property, at school-sponsored functions, or in a firearm-free zone.
Provides that present law shall not apply to the carrying of a firearm or dangerous weapon by a
law enforcement officer in the performance of his official duties.
Proposed law deletes the requirement that the officer has to be in the performance of his official
duties to be exempt from the crime.
