ENROLLED Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 33 BY REPRESENTATIVE HUVAL AND SENATOR MILLS A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To commend Ray Pellerin for his outstanding accomplishments and significant contributions to his community and to express appreciation for the pride he brings to his family, friends, and colleagues, the Acadiana community, and the state of Louisiana. WHEREAS, it is fitting to recognize and record for posterity the singular contributions and talents of Ray Pellerin; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin has had a long and remarkable career, during which he has consistently demonstrated his intense determination to fully use every opportunity to improve the welfare of the citizens of the Acadiana region in an honorable and dedicated manner; and WHEREAS, when Mr. Pellerin was just twenty-six years old he spearheaded the effort, including the fire chiefs throughout the parish, that led to the creation of the St. Martin Parish Fire District; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin is a founding organizer of Tour du Teche, a one-hundred- thirty-five-mile canoe and kayak race down Bayou Teche through St. Landry, St. Martin, Iberia, and St. Mary parishes; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin studied mechanical engineering at Louisiana State University and obtained his degree from Texas Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin returned to Breaux Bridge in 1962 to start running his family's funeral home and worked for seventeen years as an embalmer; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin is the past president of his family's businesses, Pellerin Funeral Homes, Inc., Pellerin Life Insurance Co., and Pellerin Marble and Granite Co. and the founder of Limousines Limited; and ENROLLEDHCR NO. 33 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin and his family operate funeral homes throughout the Acadiana region, including in Arnaudville, Breaux Bridge, Cecilia, Henderson, New Iberia, and St. Martinville; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin created a pioneer computer program for insurance companies and invented a drill that significantly shortened the process of drilling holes in granite; and WHEREAS, on June 29, 1963, Mr. Pellerin married the love of his life, the former Susan Caroline Taylor of New Iberia, with whom he is celebrating his fiftieth wedding anniversary this year; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Pellerin are the proud parents of four children, Gene, Frank, Paula, and Andre, and have eight grandchildren; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin and his son Gene risked their lives and gave selflessly of their time to assist the Louisiana Funeral Director Recovery Team in the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to help with autopsies at the Jefferson Parish Forensic Science Center in Gretna; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin established the St. Martin Parish Disaster Relief Fund after the area was devastated by tornadoes and has contributed significantly to the effort that has granted scholarship funds to worthy students through a family foundation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin is the founder of the Cajun Christmas Bayou Parade in Breaux Bridge as well as Cycle Cajun Country; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin has been recognized by many organizations for his civic involvement, philanthropy, and outstanding service to the community, including being selected as Fireman of the Year and Crawfish Festival King; and WHEREAS, Mr. Pellerin received the distinction of being selected as the 2012 St. Martin Leader in Philanthropy by the Community Foundation of Acadiana for his commitment to improving the quality of life in St. Martin Parish and for his leadership in the Tour de Teche and Petite Tour du Teche races; and WHEREAS, it is only appropriate that a special measure of commendation be extended to Ray Pellerin as he is recognized with abiding affection and the utmost admiration and respect by the Louisiana Legislature. ENROLLEDHCR NO. 33 Page 3 of 3 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Ray Pellerin for his outstanding accomplishments, does hereby express enduring appreciation to him for the tremendous pride, honor, and joy he brings to his family, friends, and colleagues, the Acadiana community, and the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to him every good wish for continued success and happiness in the future.
