HLS 13RS-3129 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 104 BY REPRESENTATIVE PRICE CONDOLENCES: Expresses condolences upon the death of Donald Lewis Irvin A RESOLUTION1 To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Donald Lewis2 Irvin.3 WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of4 Representatives has learned of the death of Donald Lewis Irvin and wishes to express a5 sincere measure of condolences to his bereaved family; and6 WHEREAS, Donald Lewis Irvin was born to Laura and Melvin Irvin, Sr., on August7 21, 1951, and departed this life on February 11, 2013, in Darrow, Louisiana; and 8 WHEREAS, Donald was baptized at a young age into the Hopeful Triumph Baptist9 Church in 1964 by the late Rev. James Gibson and later joined Promised Land Baptist10 Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and11 WHEREAS, Donald attended Marchand Elementary School, Kennedy Memorial, and12 later graduated from East Ascension High School; and13 WHEREAS, Donald studied at Katie Barber School in New Orleans and attended14 Southern University in Baton Rouge; and15 WHEREAS, Donald retired from Exxon-Mobil after twenty-five years of dedicated16 service and was a barber in the Southern University barber shop for thirty-five years; and17 WHEREAS, Donald touched the lives of countless students at Southern University18 who were patrons of the barber shop in which he diligently and professionally cut hair; and19 WHEREAS, Donald was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Jenkins Irvin, one20 niece, Deidra Watson, and one nephew, Shelton Irvin; and21 HLS 13RS-3129 ORIGINAL HR NO. 104 Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, Donald leaves to cherish his memory one son, Stephen Irvin and wife1 LaKisha; two granddaughters, Tayler and Sydnee Irvin; his father, Melvin Irvin, Sr.; two2 sisters, Vera Irvin and husband Roosevelt, and ValaRay Irvin; six brothers, Melvin Jr.,3 Robert and wife Sherry Ann, Harold and wife JuneAdele, Roland, Darrell and wife Hermina,4 and Douglas; one aunt, Thelma Claiborne; and many nieces and nephews; and5 WHEREAS, with the death of Donald Irvin, Louisiana has lost one of her finest sons,6 and his death has left a great void and created a genuine sense of sorrow in all who knew7 him, including his family, his friends, and those who worked with him at the Southern8 University barber shop, all of whom mourn the loss of this wonderful man who served his9 state and community so well; and10 WHEREAS, Donald Irvin leaves behind a rich and unique legacy of hard work and11 dedication and is greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the13 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the14 death of Donald Lewis Irvin, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his notable15 accomplishments and singular contributions, does hereby extend deepest sympathies and16 condolences upon the loss of this extraordinary gentleman, and does hereby extend enduring17 appreciation for the pride and honor that this extraordinary man will forever bring to his18 family and friends, his community, Southern University, and the state of Louisiana.19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted20 to the family of Donald Lewis Irvin.21 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
