ENROLLED Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 104 BY REPRESENTATIVE PRICE A RESOLUTION To express the condolences of the House of Representatives upon the death of Donald Lewis Irvin. WHEREAS, it is with deep regret and profound sorrow that the Louisiana House of Representatives has learned of the death of Donald Lewis Irvin and wishes to express a sincere measure of condolences to his bereaved family; and WHEREAS, Donald Lewis Irvin was born to Laura and Melvin Irvin, Sr., on August 21, 1951, and departed this life on February 11, 2013, in Darrow, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Donald was baptized at a young age into the Hopeful Triumph Baptist Church in 1964 by the late Rev. James Gibson and later joined Promised Land Baptist Church in Baton Rouge, Louisiana; and WHEREAS, Donald attended Marchand Elementary School, Kennedy Memorial, and later graduated from East Ascension High School; and WHEREAS, Donald studied at Katie Barber School in New Orleans and attended Southern University in Baton Rouge; and WHEREAS, Donald retired from Exxon-Mobil after twenty-five years of dedicated service and was a barber in the Southern University barber shop for thirty-five years; and WHEREAS, Donald touched the lives of countless students at Southern University who were patrons of the barber shop in which he diligently and professionally cut hair; and WHEREAS, Donald was preceded in death by his mother, Laura Jenkins Irvin, one niece, Deidra Watson, and one nephew, Shelton Irvin; and WHEREAS, Donald leaves to cherish his memory one son, Stephen Irvin and wife LaKisha; two granddaughters, Tayler and Sydnee Irvin; his father, Melvin Irvin, Sr.; two sisters, Vera Irvin and husband Roosevelt, and ValaRay Irvin; six brothers, Melvin Jr. and wife Enelda Irvin, Robert and wife Sherry Ann, Harold and wife JuneAdele, Roland, Darrell ENROLLEDHR NO. 104 Page 2 of 2 and wife Hermina, and Douglas; one aunt, Thelma Claiborne; and many nieces and nephews; and WHEREAS, with the death of Donald Irvin, Louisiana has lost one of her finest sons, and his death has left a great void and created a genuine sense of sorrow in all who knew him, including his family, his friends, and those who worked with him at the Southern University barber shop, all of whom mourn the loss of this wonderful man who served his state and community so well; and WHEREAS, Donald Irvin leaves behind a rich and unique legacy of hard work and dedication and is greatly missed by all whose lives he touched. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences upon the death of Donald Lewis Irvin, does hereby recognize and record for posterity his notable accomplishments and singular contributions, does hereby extend deepest sympathies and condolences upon the loss of this extraordinary gentleman, and does hereby extend enduring appreciation for the pride and honor that this extraordinary man will forever bring to his family and friends, his community, Southern University, and the state of Louisiana.
