HLS 13RS-3356 ORIGINAL Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 120 BY REPRESENTATIVE SEABAUGH SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Recognizes Wednesday, May 22, 2013, as Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization Day and commends Lauren Vizza, Miss Louisiana 2012 A RESOLUTION1 To recognize Wednesday May 22, 2013, as Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization Day2 at the state capitol and to commend the current Miss Louisiana, Lauren Vizza, on her3 many accomplishments.4 WHEREAS, the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization is a part of the Miss5 America Organization, the largest competitive scholarship program in the world and one of6 the leading achievement programs in the United States; and7 WHEREAS, in 2013, the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization and local8 pageants across the state made available over $634,000 in cash and tuition scholarships; and9 WHEREAS, through the Miss Louisiana Scholarship Organization, contestants10 compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships and gain poise, confidence, character, and11 life skills that will benefit them, their community, and the state of Louisiana for years to12 come; and13 WHEREAS, the current Miss Louisiana 2012, Lauren Vizza, is a native of14 Shreveport and attended Caddo Parish Magnet High School; and15 WHEREAS, Lauren is a senior political science major at Louisiana Tech University16 in Ruston and won a $10,000 scholarship along with her Miss Louisiana crown; and17 HLS 13RS-3356 ORIGINAL HR NO. 120 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Lauren currently serves as president of the College Republicans at1 Louisiana Tech University, second vice president of the Louisiana Federation of College2 Republicans, vice president of philanthropic services for Sigma Kappa Sorority, and director3 of community service for the Louisiana Tech University Student Government Association;4 and5 WHEREAS, Lauren additionally serves as spokesperson for: March of Dimes6 Louisiana, Louisiana Cares for Children, and the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and7 Sports, and she is a member of 88 Magnolias and the Freshman Leadership Team at8 Louisiana Tech; and9 WHEREAS, Lauren is also a student recruiter for Louisiana Tech, serves as a10 counselor at Rock Solid Sports Camp, and plans to obtain a law degree and pursue a career11 in foreign diplomacy upon her graduation from Louisiana Tech; and12 WHEREAS, at Caddo Magnet High School, Lauren was an all-city, all-state, and all-13 star soccer player, was named all-district soccer most valuable player, was the only female14 to receive the KLSA-TV player of the week award during the 2008-2009 soccer season, and15 was the captain of the gymnastics team; and16 WHEREAS, in Miss Louisiana pageants, Lauren was the preliminary swimsuit17 winner at Miss Louisiana 2012, fourth runner-up to Miss Louisiana 2011, and third runner-18 up to Miss Louisiana 2012; and19 WHEREAS, Lauren merits the highest measure of commendation for the tremendous20 pride and honor that she brings to her family and friends, Louisiana Tech University, the21 cities of Shreveport and Ruston, and the state of Louisiana.22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the23 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby recognize Wednesday, May 22, 2013, as Miss24 Louisiana Scholarship Organization Day at the state capitol, does hereby commend the25 current Miss Louisiana, Lauren Vizza, on all of her accomplishments and achievements, and26 does hereby extend best wishes for success and prosperity to Lauren and the Miss Louisiana27 Scholarship Organization.28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted29 to Miss Louisiana 2012, Lauren Vizza.30 HLS 13RS-3356 ORIGINAL HR NO. 120 Page 3 of 3 DIGEST The digest printed below was prepared by House Legislative Services.
