HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 144
BY REPRESENTATIVE SMITH
COMMENDATIONS: Commends the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Inc.,
Prince Hall Affiliation of Louisiana upon the celebration of its seventy-fifth
anniversary
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, Inc., upon the celebration of2
its seventy-fifth anniversary.3
WHEREAS, Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, the auxiliary and adopted4
body of the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons,5
Louisiana Jurisdiction, was organized on January 12, 1938, in New Orleans, Louisiana, and6
it is appropriate to congratulate its members upon the historic occasion of its seventy-fifth7
anniversary; and8
WHEREAS, Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star was incorporated in9
accordance with the laws of Louisiana on December 4, 1954, and initially had only ten10
chapters; and11
WHEREAS, Esther Grand Chapter, now with more than one hundred forty-five12
chapters, seeks to provide young people with guidance, build their self-esteem and character,13
and serve as a recreational outlet for youth in the community; and14
WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter annually contributes more than sixty thousand15
dollars to Camp Chicota, a youth camp in St. Landry Parish that is owned and operated by16
the Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of Louisiana and Esther Grand Chapter,17

WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter makes yearly donations to deserving charities1
during its Grand Session in Baton Rouge, recognizes the civic service and charitable2
accomplishments of its members, and awards scholarships to deserving students; and3
WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter makes generous donations to the United4
Negro College Fund, the Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, the American Cancer Society, the5
American Red Cross, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the6
National Council of Negro Women, the Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund, and the Haitian7
Relief Fund; and8
WHEREAS, the Esther Grand Chapter participates in many civic activities including9
voter registration drives, after school tutoring, sponsorship of youth organizations, Toys for10
Tots, donations to food banks and school supply drives, and a multitude of senior citizen11
functions; and12
WHEREAS, members of the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star are pillars13
of service to this state, and they merit the highest measure of commendation for seventy-five14
years of highly effective and productive service.15
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the16
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern17
Star upon the celebration of its seventy-fifth anniversary, does hereby record for posterity18
the countless acts of charity and generous contributions that this organization has made19
toward the betterment of the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to the members of20
this fine organization all the best wishes for many more years of compassionate, Christian,21
and charitable service.22
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted23
to the Grand Worthy Matron of the Esther Grand Chapter, Order of Eastern Star.24
