HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 152

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends veterans of the United States military who attended
Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School
A RESOLUTION1
To commend veterans who attended Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School for their2
honorable service to the United States military upon the celebration of their 20133
High School Reunion.4
WHEREAS, on June 21 through June 23, 2013, the former faculty, staff, and students5
of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School will celebrate their 2013 High School6
Reunion in Oak Grove, Louisiana, and it is appropriate to welcome the veterans who7
attended this historic institution back home and to extend enduring appreciation for their8
inspiring display of patriotism; and9
WHEREAS, forty-nine alumni of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School have10
served in the United States Army: Freddie Anderson, Douglas McAuthur Brown, James11
Burrell, Curtis Craft, Melvin Craft, Melva Nelson Gale, Authur B. Gallien, Kenneth Gibson,12
R.C. Gipson, Robert L. Hamilton, Eddie Hawkins, Otis Henderson, Knoris E. Holloway,13
Jackie Johnson, Dan W. Martin,  James Tyrone "Mook" Martin, Marlon  Martin, Johnnie14
Miller, Roy Lee Milton, Panama Mosby, Roddy Rogers, Carl E. Rosby, Gene A. Rosby,15
Michael Rosby, William R. Rosby, J.C. Rucker, Joseph Rucker, Samuel Sanders, Grady16
Smith, Auther Toston, Willie S. Turner, Johnny West, Shelton West, Carl Weston, James17
Earl "Buck" Whiteside, and Lonnie Wiley; and deceased are Curtis Bowie, Jerry Davis,18
Robert Epting, H. Gooley, Michael Ray Marshall, Albert J. Mitchell, Charlie Will Mitchell,19
Roderick Mitchell, Clifford Rosby, Jr., Odell Rucker, Bobby Starks, Danny Whiteside, and20

WHEREAS, twelve alumni of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School have1
served in the United States Army Louisiana National Guard: John Henry Craft, James L.2
Gordon, Junior L. Jones, Billy Ray McDaniel, Herman Mayers, Rodney Mayers, Samuel3
Mayers, Donald Ray Robinson, James Calvin Robinson, and André Williams; and deceased4
are Morris Blackmon and John Lee Brown; and5
WHEREAS, eight alumni of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School have served6
in the United States Marine Corps: Hugh "Houston" Blackmon, Robert "Monday" Daniel,7
Jacob Evans, Jerry Evans, Donald Harrington, and Herman Willie "HW" Whiteside; and8
deceased are Buford Briggs and William Earl Thomas; and9
WHEREAS, twelve alumni of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School have10
served in the United States Air Force: Bennie Butler, Robert Earl Butler, Otis Davis, Eddie11
Gipson, Nathan "Piggy Boo" Howard, Kenneth L. Nelson, Franklin D. Nelson, Cornelius12
Thomas, and Robert Turner; and deceased are Lonnie Nelson, Jr., Robert Parker, and Samuel13
Weston; and14
WHEREAS, seven alumni of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School have15
served in the United States Navy: Johnny Butler, Willie E. Epting, Willie James Johnson,16
Pamela Nelson Keys, and Roosevelt Pugh; and deceased are Marion "Buck" Anderson and17
Willie Mann, Jr.; and18
WHEREAS, these distinguished warriors have upheld the highest traditions of the19
United States of America, and have brought great pride to Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre20
High School, their families and friends, their communities, and this nation; and21
WHEREAS, the fallen heroes who attended Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High22
School merit a sincere and heartfelt measure of posthumous commendation for making the23
ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom and liberty; and24
WHEREAS, the veterans who attended this fine institution merit a special measure25
of commendation as they are welcomed with the utmost admiration and respect to the state26
of Louisiana for their actions and commitment uphold the highest traditions of the United27
States Armed Forces, and they bring tremendous pride to their families, their fellow citizens,28

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the1
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the veterans who attended Cedar Grove-2
Combs McIntyre High School for their service to the United States military, does hereby3
recognize and record for posterity their vital contributions and their tireless dedication to4
military excellence, does hereby express enduring appreciation for the tremendous honor5
they bring to the citizens of Louisiana, and does hereby extend full measures of happiness6
and prosperity to all participants of the 2013 Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School7
Reunion.8
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the legislature does hereby express heartfelt and9
abiding appreciation to those brave American men and women who daily carry out the10
military, diplomatic, and intelligence initiatives necessary to protect freedom in the world11
and does hereby recognize and honor the veterans of Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High12
School and all members of the United States Armed Forces who have lost their lives while13
fighting for their country and laid so costly a sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.14
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted15
to Glenese Toston Tolbert, chair of the 2013 Cedar Grove-Combs McIntyre High School16
Reunion Committee.17
