COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Laura Elizabeth Lipari upon her selection as the
Louisiana/Mississippi chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 2014 Girl of
the Year
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Laura Elizabeth Lipari upon her selection as the Louisiana/Mississippi chapter2
of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 2014 Girl of the Year.3
WHEREAS, Laura is a survivor of childhood cancer, and it is appropriate to4
commend her upon her selection as the Louisiana/Mississippi chapter of the Leukemia and5
Lymphoma Society 2014 Girl of the Year; and6
WHEREAS, Laura was diagnosed with acute lymphoblast leukemia on February 4,7
2011, underwent intensive chemotherapy treatments for two years and four months, and is8
now cancer free; and9
WHEREAS, Laura got sick during her kindergarten year of school and was home10
schooled until 2012 but finished first grade with her class at St. Edward School; and11
WHEREAS, Laura recently completed the second grade with an A/B average and12
will start the third grade this fall; and13
WHEREAS, Laura has raised money to help upgrade a local animal shelter and has14
raised over $80,000 to establish a grant in her name to help fund research to fight childhood15
leukemia; and16
WHEREAS, as a result of her strength, tenacity, and resilience, Laura was selected17
as the Louisiana/Mississippi chapter of Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 2014 Girl of the18
Year and accepted the honor on April 18, 2013; and19 HLS 13RS-4144	ORIGINAL

WHEREAS, in honor of her inspirational bravery, compassion, and unbreakable1
spirit, the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society established the Laura Lipari Research Grant;2
and3
WHEREAS, this grant will be awarded in the name of Laura Lipari to an exceptional4
organization that aids in the advancement of research in the field of acute lymphoblast5
leukemia, the most common form of childhood cancer; and6
WHEREAS, Laura's constant grace and silent courage throughout her prolonged7
treatments and struggles has served as an inspiration to all who know and love her; and8
WHEREAS, Laura merits the highest measure of respect, honor, and praise for her9
spirit and determination.10
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the11
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Laura Elizabeth Lipari upon her selection12
as the Louisiana/Mississippi chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society 2014 Girl of13
the Year, does hereby record for posterity the tremendous joy that she brings to her friends14
and family, her community, and the state of Louisiana, and does hereby extend to her best15
wishes for health and happiness in the future.16
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted17
to Laura Elizabeth Lipari.18
