HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 193
BY REPRESENTATIVE COX
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Dr. Johnny Cox, mayor of Coushatta, upon his many
accomplishments and contributions to Red River Parish
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Dr. Johnny Cox, mayor of Coushatta, on his many accomplishments and2
contributions to Red River Parish.3
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to commend Johnny Cox for his hard work and his4
dedication to the people of Red River Parish; and5
WHEREAS, in 2012, Johnny Cox was elected as mayor of Coushatta, and he is6
celebrating his twenty-first pastoral anniversary; and7
WHEREAS, Mayor Cox graduated from Coushatta High School, received his8
bachelor's degree from Northwestern State University, his master's of Biblical studies degree9
from the Institute for Teaching God's Word, and his doctor of theology and doctor of10
philosophy degrees from the Minnesota Graduate School of Theology; and11
WHEREAS, as a student at Northwestern State University, Mayor Cox was elected12
Student Government Association president, and he has also served as chairman of the13
Louisiana Coalition of Colleges and Universities and as president of the Parent Teacher14
Organization of Springville Middle School; and15
WHEREAS, Mayor Cox is a co-owner of The Messenger newspaper, which is16
distributed throughout Red River, DeSoto, and Natchitoches parishes; and17
WHEREAS, Mayor Cox is also a former city councilman for the town of Coushatta,18
a former member of the Northwestern State University Alumni Board of Directors and of19
the Louisiana Board of Trustees for Colleges and Universities, a former substitute teacher20
and former deputy sheriff in Red River Parish, and the former chief executive officer of21

WHEREAS, Mayor Cox served his country as an officer in the United States Army1
and a sergeant in the Louisiana National Guard, and he attended the Airborne School of the2
U.S. Army Infantry; and3
WHEREAS, Mayor Cox is the recipient of many honors, including the U.S. Army4
Achievement Medal, Who's Who Among American Colleges and Universities, Blue Key5
National Honor Fraternity, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps (R.O.T.C.) Academic6
Excellence Award, and the Outstanding Community Leader Award for Red River and7
Natchitoches parishes; and8
WHEREAS, Mayor Cox is married to Valerie L. Cox, and they are celebrating their9
twenty-first anniversary as pastor and co-pastor of Will of God Ministries Church; and10
WHEREAS, Mayor Johnny Cox is one of Louisiana's finest sons, and he merits the11
highest measure of commendation for his many years of service to the town of Coushatta,12
Red River Parish, Will of God Ministries Church, the state of Louisiana, and the United13
States of America.14
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the15
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Johnny Cox, mayor of Coushatta, on his16
many accomplishments and for his service to Red River Parish, does hereby record for17
posterity the tremendous pride and honor that he brings to his friends, family, church, and18
community, does hereby congratulate Johnny and Valerie Cox upon the celebration of their19
twenty-first pastoral anniversary, and does hereby extend to Mayor Cox best wishes for20
continued success, prosperity, and happiness in the future.21
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted22
to Dr. Johnny Cox, mayor of Coushatta, Louisiana.23
