HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 216
BY REPRESENTATIVE BARROW
A RESOLUTION
To commend the McDonald's Restaurant on Plank Road in Baton Rouge upon the
celebration of its fiftieth anniversary.
WHEREAS, the McDonald's Restaurant on Plank Road, built in 1963, was the first
McDonald's built in the Baton Rouge community; and
WHEREAS, owner Charles Valluzzo and family have contributed much to the
success and flourishing of the restaurant; and
WHEREAS, the McDonald's Restaurant holds much history in that it survived a
hurricane in 1964 and began selling hamburgers to those in need until the restaurant ran out
of meat; for the remainder of the inclement weather period, the restaurant sold grilled
cheeses in order to provide food to the community; and
WHEREAS, McDonald's Restaurant has served as Ronald McDonald House
Charities' largest corporate donor for thirty-nine years; the charity's purpose is to create, find,
and support programs that directly improve the health and well-being of children; and
WHEREAS, the half-century anniversary celebration was held at the McDonald's
Restaurant located on Plank Road on May 16, 2013, and family, friends, neighbors, and
employees came to participate in the celebration and festivities; and
WHEREAS, McDonald's Restaurant merits a sincere measure of commendation upon
its fiftieth anniversary.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the McDonald's Restaurant on Plank Road
upon the celebration of its fiftieth anniversary and extends best wishes for continued success
