Sheridan, the Assistant Adjutant General–Army for the La. National Guard and the La. National Guard's first female general, for her outstanding military accomplishments A RESOLUTION1 To commend Brigadier General Joanne F. Sheridan, the Assistant Adjutant General–Army2 for the Louisiana National Guard and the first female general of the Louisiana3 National Guard, for her outstanding military accomplishments.4 WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Brigadier General Joanne F. Sheridan for5 her dedication to excellence in military service; and6 WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan graduated from Northeast Louisiana7 University in Monroe, earning a bachelor of arts degree in sociology; she received her8 commission through the Reserve Officer Training Corps in May of 1983; and9 WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan began her military career on active duty,10 serving from February of 1984 through September of 1988; during this time, she was11 assigned to the 5th Infantry Division (Mechanized) at Fort Polk, Louisiana, where she served12 as the Assistant G-1, Plans and Policies; she served in various personnel and administrative13 positions during her three-year tour, and she was next transferred to Jackson, Mississippi,14 where she served as the Assistant Operations Officer in the 5th United States Army15 Recruiting Battalion; and16 WHEREAS, in October of 1988, Brigadier General Sheridan began her long and17 distinguished career with the Louisiana National Guard, serving as the Assistant S-1,18 Headquarters Detachment Commander, and S-1 in the 61st Troop Command as well as the19 Education Services Officer, Deputy Director of Military Personnel, Deputy Director of20 HLS 13RS-1376 ORIGINAL HR NO. 46 Page 2 of 2 Information Management, Deputy Chief of Staff, Director of Personnel-J1, and Vice Chief1 of the Joint Staff in the Joint Force Headquarters–Louisiana; and as Commander of the 415th2 Military Intelligence Battalion and the 199th Regiment (Regional Training Institute); and3 WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan serves with distinction as the Assistant4 Adjutant General–Army for the Louisiana National Guard and the principal military advisor5 to the Adjutant General of the State of Louisiana, providing integral assistance in the6 deployment and coordination of programs, policies, and plans for the Louisiana Army7 National Guard; and8 WHEREAS, in 2008, Brigadier General Sheridan deployed in support of Operation9 Iraqi Freedom as the Director of the Project Management Office on the Task Force to10 Improve Business and Stability Operations in Iraq; and11 WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan, who chairs the National Guard Association12 of Louisiana, made history in July of 2012 upon her promotion to brigadier general, making13 her the Louisiana National Guard's first female general; and14 WHEREAS, Brigadier General Sheridan merits a special measure of commendation15 for the pride and honor she brings to her state and nation.16 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the17 Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Brigadier General Joanne F. Sheridan, the18 Assistant Adjutant General–Army for the Louisiana National Guard and the first female19 general of the Louisiana National Guard, for her outstanding military accomplishments and20 her committed service to the state of Louisiana and the United States and does hereby extend21 to her every good wish for continued success and happiness in the future.22 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted23 to Brigadier General Joanne F.
