HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 91
BY REPRESENTATIVE TERRY LANDRY
COMMENDATIONS:  Commends Monsignor Ronald Broussard upon his 25th anniversary
in the priesthood
A RESOLUTION1
To commend Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard, former Vicar General of the Diocese2
of Lafayette, upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination as a priest.3
WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard has served in various parishes4
throughout southwest Louisiana with pastoral devotion, and it is appropriate to recognize the5
depth of his faith through his comforting and spiritual leadership; and6
WHEREAS, Ronald Broussard was born to Emma and Ernest Broussard as the fifth7
of six children; and8
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard received his bachelor's degree in business9
management from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and earned a masters in divinity10
at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans; and11
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard's seminary experiences were influenced greatly12
by his studies at Xavier University, an environment that created indelibly rich and13
transforming memories for his journey; and14
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard was ordained into the priesthood on May 21,15
1988, after completing his deacon internship at Our Lady of the Lake in Delcambre; and16
WHEREAS, since 1990, Monsignor Broussard has held many positions of leadership17
within the Diocese of Lafayette, including the appointment as the first African American18
Vice Chancellor and first African American Vicar General; and19
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard's first assignment was as associate pastor at Our20
Lady of the Holy Rosary in Kaplan and his first assignment as pastor was at St. Benedict De21

WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard received the distinguished Prelate of Honor of1
Monsignor from Pope John Paul II in 1999, making him the first African American priest2
to receive this honor in the Diocese of Lafayette; and3
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard has served the St. Edward/St. Jude Catholic4
Church Parish as pastor since 2004, where he is the shepherd of approximately one thousand5
two hundred fifty parishioners; and6
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard also serves as pastor of the Proclamation of7
St. Edward Catholic School; and8
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard has been actively involved in the Diocese as a9
Louisiana Worship Commissioner, a Diocesan Building Committee member, a member of10
the College of Consultors, the Bishop's Representative to Lafayette Catholic Service Centers,11
Inc., and a member of the Priest Council; and12
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard formed and directs the Mass Choir, which13
performs at special church masses including those celebrated by Bishop Michael Jarrell at14
the Immaculata Chapel in Lafayette for the elderly and victims of violence; and15
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard's deeply rooted faith permeates the lyrics he16
writes, the music he composes and plays, and the songs he sings, all for God's glory; and17
WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard encourages all of his parishioners to serve with18
a heart like Jesus and works to create a positive nurturing environment for the youth of the19
community; and20
WHEREAS, as pastor, Monsignor Broussard's devotion to prayer and service21
continues to create an uplifting, uniting, and healing church and school community22
environment, and the historic milestone of his twenty-fifth anniversary in the priesthood is23
the result of exemplary dedication to the church, its parishioners, and school family; and24
WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Monsignor Broussard and to extend to him25
sincere and heartfelt appreciation as he continues to be an inspiration to many.26
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the27
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard28
upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination as a priest, does hereby recognize the29
good works and service that Monsignor Broussard has given to numerous churches and their30 HLS 13RS-2233	ORIGINAL

parishioners and particularly his wonderful service as pastor of St. Edward/St. Jude Catholic1
Church, does hereby express gratitude on behalf of the many lives that Monsignor Broussard2
has touched during his ministry, and does hereby extend to him best wishes for health,3
happiness, and God's richest blessings in the years to come.4
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a suitable copy of this Resolution be transmitted5
to Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard.6
