ENROLLED Page 1 of 3 Regular Session, 2013 HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 91 BY REPRESENTATIVE TERRY LANDRY A RESOLUTION To commend Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard, former Vicar General of the Diocese of Lafayette, upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination as a priest. WHEREAS, Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard has served in various parishes throughout southwest Louisiana with pastoral devotion, and it is appropriate to recognize the depth of his faith through his comforting and spiritual leadership; and WHEREAS, Ronald Broussard was born to Emma and Ernest Broussard as the fifth of six children; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard received his bachelor's degree in business management from the University of Southwestern Louisiana and earned a masters in divinity at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard's seminary experiences were influenced greatly by his studies at Xavier University, an environment that created indelibly rich and transforming memories for his journey; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard was ordained into the priesthood on May 21, 1988, after completing his deacon internship at Our Lady of the Lake in Delcambre; and WHEREAS, since 1990, Monsignor Broussard has held many positions of leadership within the Diocese of Lafayette, including the appointment as the first African American Vice Chancellor and first African American Vicar General; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard's first assignment was as associate pastor at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary in Kaplan and his first assignment as pastor was at St. Benedict De Moore from 1992-2004; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard received the distinguished Prelate of Honor of Monsignor from Pope John Paul II in 1999, making him the first African American priest to receive this honor in the Diocese of Lafayette; and ENROLLEDHR NO. 91 Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard has served the St. Edward/St. Jude Catholic Church Parish as pastor since 2004, where he is the shepherd of approximately one thousand two hundred fifty parishioners; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard also serves as pastor of the Proclamation of St. Edward Catholic School; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard has been actively involved in the Diocese as a Louisiana Worship Commissioner, a Diocesan Building Committee member, a member of the College of Consultors, the Bishop's Representative to Lafayette Catholic Service Centers, Inc., and a member of the Priest Council; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard formed and directs the Mass Choir, which performs at special church masses including those celebrated by Bishop Michael Jarrell at the Immaculata Chapel in Lafayette for the elderly and victims of violence; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard's deeply rooted faith permeates the lyrics he writes, the music he composes and plays, and the songs he sings, all for God's glory; and WHEREAS, Monsignor Broussard encourages all of his parishioners to serve with a heart like Jesus and works to create a positive nurturing environment for the youth of the community; and WHEREAS, as pastor, Monsignor Broussard's devotion to prayer and service continues to create an uplifting, uniting, and healing church and school community environment, and the historic milestone of his twenty-fifth anniversary in the priesthood is the result of exemplary dedication to the church, its parishioners, and school family; and WHEREAS, it is appropriate to recognize Monsignor Broussard and to extend to him sincere and heartfelt appreciation as he continues to be an inspiration to many. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Reverend Monsignor Ronald Broussard upon the twenty-fifth anniversary of his ordination as a priest, does hereby recognize the good works and service that Monsignor Broussard has given to numerous churches and their parishioners and particularly his wonderful service as pastor of St. Edward/St. Jude Catholic Church, does hereby express gratitude on behalf of the many lives that Monsignor Broussard has touched during his ministry, and does hereby extend to him best wishes for health, happiness, and God's richest blessings in the years to come.
