JUDGES. Provides for salaries of judges as recommended by the Judicial Compensation
Commission. (See Act)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 13:50, relative to certain judicial salaries; to provide for salary increases for2
judges of the supreme court, courts of appeal, district courts, city courts, and parish3
courts as recommended by the Judicial Compensation Commission; and to provide4
for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 13:50 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง50.  Salary as recommended by the Judicial Compensation Commission8
Pursuant to the Judicial Compensation Commission's report dated9
January 9, 2013:10
(1)(a) Effective July 1, 2013, the actual salary of the judges of the11
supreme court, courts of appeal, and district courts shall be increased as12
follows:13
(i)  Supreme court โ€“ five and one-half percent.14
(ii)  Courts of appeal โ€“ three and seven-tenths percent.15
(iii)  District courts โ€“ four percent.16

appeal, and district courts shall be increased by two and one-tenth percent on1
July first of 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.2
(2)(a) Effective July 1, 2013, the state-paid actual salary of the judges of3
city courts and parish courts shall be increased by four percent.4
(b)  The state-paid actual salary of the judges of city courts and parish5
courts shall be increased by two and one-tenth percent on July first of 2014,6
2015, 2016, and 2017.7
Section 2. Any salary adjustments resulting from this Act shall only apply to judges8
and shall not apply to any other public officer whose salary is set in accordance with the9
judge's salary.10
Section 3. The provisions of Section 1 of this Act shall only become effective in the11
event that any salary increases conform to the appropriation provided in House Bill No. 69112
of the 2013 Regular Session of the Legislature.13
Section 4. The provisions of Sections 3 and 4 shall become effective upon signature14
by the governor or, if not signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to15
become law without signature by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the16
Constitution of Louisiana. If vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the17
legislature, this Act shall become effective on the day following such approval.18

Proposed law provides that the state-paid salary of city court and parish court judges shall
be increased by 2.1% on July 1
st
 of 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
Section of proposed law containing salary increases shall be effective only in the event that
any salary increases conform to the judicial appropriation bill.  Other sections of proposed
law effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
Provides that any salary adjustment resulting from proposed law shall be limited to judges
and prohibits a salary increase for any other public official whose compensation is set in
accordance with judges' salaries.
