MOTOR VEHICLES. Authorizes "I'm a Cajun" on driver's license and identification cards. (1/1/14) AN ACT1 To enact R.S. 32:412(L) and R.S. 40:1321(L), relative to "I'm a Cajun" on a driver's license2 and identification card; to provide for the exhibition of the designation "I'm a Cajun"3 on a driver's license and identification card; to authorize collection of a fee for the4 "I'm a Cajun" designation; to provide for the disbursement of fees collected to the5 Council for the Development of French in Louisiana; and to provide for related6 matters.7 Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:8 Section 1. R.S. 32:412(L) is hereby enacted to read as follows:9 §412. Amount of fees; credit or refund; duration of license; veteran designation;10 "I'm a Cajun" designation; disbursement of funds; renewal by mail11 or electronic commerce of Class "D" or "E" drivers' licenses;12 disposition of certain fees; exception13 * * *14 L.(1) Upon request and payment of an additional fee, the designation15 "I'm a Cajun" shall be exhibited in the color black below the person's16 photograph on the driver's license regardless of its class. This fee shall be in addition to the payment of any driver's license6 fee.7 (3) The monies received from the additional fee shall be disbursed8 quarterly by the department to the Council for the Development of French in9 Louisiana. The monies received from the additional five dollar fee shall be10 disbursed solely to fund scholarships for the "La Fondation Louisiane for the11 Escadrille Louisiane" scholarship program of the Council for the Development12 of French in Louisiana. 13 (4) The deputy secretary of the Department of Public Safety and14 Corrections, public safety services, shall establish such rules and regulations as15 are necessary to implement the provisions of this Subsection.16 Section 2. R.S. 40:1321(L) is hereby enacted to read as follows:17 §1321. Proposed law provides for collection of the fee by the Department of Public Safety and Corrections (DPSC) and quarterly disbursement of monies collected to the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana (CODOFIL). Proposed law requires CODOFIL to disburse the monies received from the fee solely to fund scholarships for its "La Fondation Louisiane for the Escadrille Louisiane" scholarship program.
