DIGEST
Present law created the Algiers Development District, a special taxing district within the fifteenth
ward of Orleans Parish.
Proposed law retains present law and expanded the boundary by including the Village Aurora
Shopping Center.
Present law provides that the proceeds of the tax shall be used solely and exclusively for the
purposes and benefit of the district.
Proposed law retains present law and provides that the proceeds shall also be used to fund the
continual operation of the Algiers-Canal Street Ferry system.
Effective August 1, 2013.
