ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH.  Prohibit smoking on the grounds of and inside the facilities
or buildings utilized by the institutions managed and supervised by certain post secondary
education management boards. (gov sig)
AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 40:1300.256(A)(5), relative to general smoking prohibitions on certain public2
post secondary education campuses; to prohibit smoking on the grounds of or inside3
the facilities or buildings utilized by certain public post secondary education entities;4
and to provide for related matters.5
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:6
Section 1.  R.S. 40:1300.256(A)(5) is hereby enacted to read as follows: 7
ยง1300.256. General smoking prohibitions; exemptions8
A. Except as permitted by Subsection B of this Section, no person shall:9

(5) Smoke on the grounds of or inside the facilities or buildings utilized11
by institutions managed and supervised by the Board of Supervisors of12
Community and Technical Colleges, the Board of Supervisors of Louisiana13
State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, the Board of14
Supervisors of Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College,15
or the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System.16

Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not1
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature2
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana. If3
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become4
effective on the day following such approval.5

Present law provides the general smoking prohibitions and exemptions.
Proposed law provides an additional prohibition to include no smoking on the grounds of or
inside the facilities or buildings utilized by institutions managed and supervised by the Board
of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges, the Board of Supervisors of Louisiana
State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, the Board of Supervisors of
Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College, or the Board of Supervisors
for the University of Louisiana System.
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
