CRIME/PUNISHMENT.  Creates the crime of false personation of a veteran or veteran-

AN ACT1
To enact R.S. 14:67.29, relative to misappropriation without violence; to create the crime2
of false personation of a veteran or veteran-owned business; to provide definitions;3
to provide penalties; and to provide for related matters.4
Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:5
Section 1.  R.S. 14:67.29 is hereby enacted to read as follows: 6
ยง67.29. False personation of a veteran or veteran-owned business7
A. False personation of a veteran is the false representation by a person8
of being a veteran, with the intent to injure, defraud, obtain economic gain, or9
obtain or secure any special privilege or advantage.10
B. False personation of a veteran-owned business is the false11
representation by an owner, operator, principal, or employee of a business that12
the business is a veteran-owned business or is a service-connected disabled13
veteran-owned business, with the intent to injure, defraud, obtain economic14
gain, or obtain or secure any special privilege or advantage.15
C. For the purposes of this Section, "veteran" means a person who has16
served in the armed services or reserve forces of the United States or Louisiana17 SB NO. 60

National Guard.1
D. Whoever commits the crime of false personation of a veteran or2
veteran-owned business shall be fined not more than one thousand dollars, or3
imprisoned for not more than six months, or both. 4
Section 2. This Act shall become effective upon signature by the governor or, if not5
signed by the governor, upon expiration of the time for bills to become law without signature6
by the governor, as provided by Article III, Section 18 of the Constitution of Louisiana.  If7
vetoed by the governor and subsequently approved by the legislature, this Act shall become8
effective on the day following such approval.9

Proposed law creates the crime of false personation of a veteran or veteran-owned business.
Proposed law defines false personation of a veteran as the false representation by a person
of being a veteran, with the intent to injure, defraud, obtain economic gain, or obtain or
secure any special privilege or advantage.
Proposed law defines false personation of a veteran-owned business as the false
representation by an owner, operator, principal, or employee of a business that the business
is a veteran-owned business or is a service-connected disabled veteran-owned business, with
the intent to injure, defraud, obtain economic gain, or obtain or secure any special privilege
or advantage.
Proposed law defines "veteran" as a person who has served in the armed services or reserve
forces of the United States or Louisiana National Guard. 
Proposed law provides that whoever commits the crime of false personation of a veteran or
veteran-owned business is to be fined not more than $1,000, or imprisoned for not more than
six months, or both. 
Effective upon signature of the governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
