Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 22 BY SENATORS LONG AND THOMPSON A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON To urge and request the Louisiana High School Athletic Association to establish and sanction the competitive sport of tournament bass fishing. WHEREAS, the mission of the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) is to direct and regulate the interscholastic athletics of member schools while promoting fair and equitable competition; and WHEREAS, the LHSAA currently sanctions one hundred nine championships and twenty-five sports; and WHEREAS, fishing is as much a part of Louisiana's culture as is football and as much a pastime of Louisianians as is baseball; and WHEREAS, many of Louisiana's high school students already participate in bass fishing, both on a recreational and competitive level; and WHEREAS, The Bass Federation's Louisiana chapter recently sponsored a state bass fishing tournament at Caddo Lake that attracted over forty teams representing approximately twenty LHSAA member schools; and WHEREAS, the Association of Louisiana Bass Clubs recently unanimously approved adding a junior division to its ranks with the hope of attracting high school teams as members; and WHEREAS, the high school athletic associations in Illinois, Kentucky, and South Carolina currently sanction bass fishing as a championship sport; and WHEREAS, by sanctioning bass fishing as a competitive sport, the LHSAA would create another avenue for students to participate in interscholastic competition. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby urge and request the Louisiana High School Athletic Association to establish and sanction the competitive sport of tournament bass fishing.
