SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 62

COMMENDATIONS. Commends Ray Castle, Derek Carter, Brendan Jacob, and Caitlyn
McKinley for providing volunteer emergency medical assistance to the victims of the recent
Boston Marathon bombing.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To recognize and commend Ray Castle, Derek Carter, Brendan Jacob, and Caitlyn2
McKinley for providing volunteer emergency medical assistance to the victims of3
the recent Boston Marathon bombing.4
WHEREAS, Ray Castle, an athletic trainer, associate professor, and program5
director for LSU's Bachelor of Science program in Athletic Training, attended the Boston6
Marathon with three athletic training students from LSU: Derek Carter, Brendan Jacob, and7
graduating senior, Caitlyn McKinley; and8
WHEREAS, the group volunteered to serve as part of a comprehensive medical9
team of over one hundred thirty athletic trainers and athletic training students responsible10
for the health and safety needs of the nearly seventeen thousand race entrants serving as first11
responders at the finish line and in medical tents; and12
WHEREAS, Ray and his students were stationed near the finish line, approximately13
fifty meters away from the blast site, and were among the first of the medical personnel to14
reach the injured runners and bystanders and provided emergency medical assistance; and15
WHEREAS, their efforts and quick response, along with that of so many other health16
care providers that day, served to assist over two hundred victims of the disaster and to save17

WHEREAS, through their response and efforts, the group serves as role models and1
a credit to the LSU community, the state of Louisiana and to the athletic training profession2
as a whole.3
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby 4
commend and recognize Ray Castle, Derek Carter, Brendan Jacob, and Caitlyn McKinley5
for providing volunteer emergency medical assistance to the victims of the recent Boston6
Marathon bombing. 7
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Ray8
Castle, Derek Carter, Brendan Jacob, and Caitlyn McKinley.9
