SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 67

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend STARC of St. Tammany Parish for more than forty years of helping people
with developmental disabilities.
WHEREAS, STARC, the acronym for "St. Tammany Association for Retarded
Citizens", is a private non-profit agency dedicated to providing a lifetime of services to
citizens in its service area who have developmental disabilities; and
WHEREAS, STARC has been serving the developmentally disabled in its service
area since its inception in 1972, beginning with only three clients and today serving more
than twelve hundred individuals and their families; and
WHEREAS, STARC focuses on helping people with developmental disabilities
reach their potential as independent, contributing members of their community; and
WHEREAS, from providing therapeutic treatment from day care to job training,
STARC has grown over the years in its efforts to build independence in those with
developmental disabilities in St. Tammany Parish, as well as offering limited services in
Livingston, St. Helena, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes; and
WHEREAS, STARC offers multiple programs aimed at serving infants, toddlers,
children, young men and women, and the elderly; and
WHEREAS, through special programs, support, and nurturing, STARC strives to
help the developmentally disabled in its service area of southeast Louisiana, equipping them
to lead meaningful, productive, and fulfilling lives; and
WHEREAS, STARC programs are aimed at developing skills that enable those with
developmental disabilities to gain independence and to live productive and meaningful lives.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend STARC of St. Tammany Parish for more than forty years of helping people with
developmental disabilities. SCR NO. 67 ENROLLED

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Mr.
Steve Duverney, president of the board of STARC for 2012-2013.
