SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 72
BY SENATOR PEACOCK AND REPRESENTATI VE SEABAUGH
COMMENDATIONS. Commends Safa Michigan upon being named the 2013 Louisiana
Public Schools Middle School Student of the Year and recognizes her extraordinary
accomplishments.
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1
To commend Safa Michigan upon being named the 2013 Louisiana Public Schools Middle2
School Student of the Year and to recognize her extraordinary accomplishments.3
WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Legislature of Louisiana recognizes the4
academics, leadership skills, and character of Safa Michigan and her service to her school5
and community; and6
WHEREAS, an eighth grade student at Caddo Middle Magnet School, Safa7
Michigan's dedication to academic achievement and drive to do her best at all times are8
evident in her unblemished academic record; she has maintained a 4.0 average in each of the9
three years of her middle school education while active in the National Junior Honor10
Society, Mathcounts, Elegant Leaders in Today's Educational Society, and Peer Advocates;11
and she was selected for the Duke talent identification program for scoring in the top five12
percent on the ACT; and13
WHEREAS, in 2012, she took on the mantle of instructor when she was selected to14
teach a five-week leadership and education class at the Salvation Army Boys and Girls Club;15
and16
WHEREAS, in addition to her academic success, Safa Michigan is also deeply17
committed to promoting social awareness and education through her own nonprofit18 SCR NO. 72

organization, Made in America, Inc., which has been recognized by Governor Bobby Jindal1
and United States Congressman John Fleming; and2
WHEREAS, she authored a book, History Matters for Children; and3
WHEREAS, Safa Michigan also has become an accomplished pianist and tennis4
player and has won multiple awards, including first place in the Northwest Louisiana5
Regional Spelling Bee; and6
WHEREAS, she is the daughter of Sunny Hussain and Saimah Talukder, who should7
be recognized along with her teachers and school for inspiring her to set and achieve8
extraordinary goals; and9
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Department of Education has selected Safa Michigan as10
the Louisiana Public Schools Middle School Student of the Year.11
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby12
extend congratulations and commendation to Safa Michigan upon being named the 201313
Louisiana Public Schools Middle School Student of the Year, and hereby wish Ms. Michigan14
full measures of success and happiness in the years to come, and hereby hope that she serves15
as an example to other students who have our state's future in their hands and serve as a16
promise to the next generation.17
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Safa18
Michigan of Caddo Parish.19
