Recognizes May 17-18, 2013, as the annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival in Gibsland, Louisiana. A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON1 To recognize the annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival being held on May 17-18, 2013, in2 Gibsland, Louisiana, and its historical significance.3 WHEREAS, on May 17 and May 18, 2013, Gibsland, Louisiana, will hold the 18th4 annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival, a yearly event held on the weekend closest to the May 23,5 1934, anniversary date of the ambush of Bonnie & Clyde; and6 WHEREAS, each year thousands come from all across the United States and Europe7 to remember the historical ambush of the infamous outlaws and enjoy fun festivities, great8 food, music, and authentic re-enactments; and9 WHEREAS, the festival has been featured on a BBC historical program and the10 Gibsland/Bienville Parish area has been the subject of two documentary films that chronicled11 the history and events leading to the famous shootout; and 12 WHEREAS, the festival kicks off on Friday night with live entertainment and a13 dinner of authentic Louisiana jambalaya at the Gibsland Grill followed by the Lorraine14 Joyner Historical Meeting featuring guest speakers which include family members,15 historians and authors; and16 WHEREAS, Saturday's festivities start off with a pancake breakfast at the Lion's17 Club and thereafter, the streets come to life with vendors, live entertainment, a parade and18 SCR NO. 77 SLS 13RS-1949 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 2 action packed re-enactments, including a look-alike contest of Bonnie, Clyde and the officers1 who ambushed them; and2 WHEREAS, the festival features good food and refreshments along with two3 fantastic museums to visit and bingo; and 4 WHEREAS, around 4:30 p.m. everyone drives out to the actual ambush site for an5 authentic re-enactment of the fateful day when Bonnie & Clyde were gunned down; and6 WHEREAS, this annual festival is not meant to glorify the life and crimes of Bonnie7 & Clyde nor to celebrate their tragic death, but is an annual get together of family members,8 historians and authors so they can share their interest in the history and the mystery; and9 WHEREAS, the festival has special significance on the town of Gibsland, Bienville10 Parish, and the state of Louisiana.11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby12 recognizes the annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival being held on May 17-18, 2013, in Gibsland,13 Louisiana, and its historical significance.14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to John15 C.
