SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 77

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To recognize the annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival being held on May 17-18, 2013, in
Gibsland, Louisiana, and its historical significance.
WHEREAS, on May 17 and May 18, 2013, Gibsland, Louisiana, will hold the 18th
annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival, a yearly event held on the weekend closest to the May 23,
1934, anniversary date of the ambush of Bonnie & Clyde; and
WHEREAS, each year thousands come from all across the United States and Europe
to remember the historical ambush of the infamous outlaws and enjoy fun festivities, great
food, music, and authentic re-enactments; and
WHEREAS, the festival has been featured on a BBC historical program and the
Gibsland/Bienville Parish area has been the subject of two documentary films that chronicled
the history and events leading to the famous shootout; and 
WHEREAS, the festival kicks off on Friday night with live entertainment and a
dinner of authentic Louisiana jambalaya at the Gibsland Grill followed by the Lorraine
Joyner Historical Meeting featuring guest speakers which include family members,
historians and authors; and
WHEREAS, Saturday's festivities start off with a pancake breakfast at the Lion's
Club and thereafter, the streets come to life with vendors, live entertainment, a parade and
action packed re-enactments, including a look-alike contest of Bonnie, Clyde and the officers
who ambushed them; and
WHEREAS, the festival features good food and refreshments along with two
fantastic museums to visit and bingo; and 
WHEREAS, around 4:30 p.m. everyone drives out to the actual ambush site for an
authentic re-enactment of the fateful day when Bonnie & Clyde were gunned down; and
WHEREAS, this annual festival is not meant to glorify the life and crimes of Bonnie
& Clyde nor to celebrate their tragic death, but is an annual get together of family members,
historians and authors so they can share their interest in the history and the mystery; and SCR NO. 77	ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the festival has special significance on the town of Gibsland, Bienville
Parish, and the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana hereby
recognizes the annual Bonnie & Clyde Festival being held on May 17-18, 2013, in Gibsland,
Louisiana, and its historical significance.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to John
C. Cole of the Bonnie & Clyde Committee.
