SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON NO. 93
BY SENATOR ALARIO AND REPRESENTATIVES KLECKLEY AND LEGER 
A CONCURRENT RESOLUTI ON
To commend and congratulate Rachel Elizabeth Schultz on her reign as the seventy-sixth
Greater New Orleans Floral Trail Queen for 2012-2013.
WHEREAS, in June of last year, Miss Rachel Elizabeth Schultz was crowned the
Greater New Orleans Floral Trail Queen and has graciously represented her city and state
during this time; and
WHEREAS, Rachel, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Darryl M. Schultz, is a regal
legacy in that her mother, Lucy Vesich Schultz, also reigned in 1976-1977 as Queen of the
Greater New Orleans Floral Trail; and
WHEREAS, the Greater New Orleans Floral Trail has a colorful history that dates
back to the 1930s when a federal grant was commissioned to beautify the vast landscapes
of the city with the planting of an abundance of azaleas, camellias, palms, and crepe myrtles;
and
WHEREAS, today this arboreal wonder meanders seventy-eight miles from the
banks of the Mississippi River to the shores of Lake Pontchartrain, winding its way through
Jefferson and Kenner; and
WHEREAS, Rachel made her Floral Trail debut in 1999 as a princess of the court
and followed as a demoiselle in two later courts; and
WHEREAS, Miss Schultz was a graduate of Mount Carmel Academy with
extracurricular activities that included Student Ambassador, Varsity Soccer, and Christian
Life Community; she was the recipient of the Louisiana Young Hero Award, the Cox
Communications Inspiration Award, the American Citizenship Award, the Helping Hands
Award, and upon graduation, the Sister Mary Grace Danos O. Carm. Award for outstanding
community service and a four-year scholarship from the Mid-South Division of the
American Cancer Society; and
WHEREAS, while at LSU she pledged Delta Gamma Sorority and continued to
volunteer with organizations that included the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired, SCR NO. 93	ENROLLED

Kids Kicking Cancer, Inc., the Children's Leukemia League of New Orleans, and the
Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; and 
WHEREAS, Miss Schultz is a recent spring graduate of Louisiana State University
with a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology who plans to pursue graduate studies in
Occupational Therapy; and
WHEREAS, as queen, Rachel has represented the city of New Orleans at festivals
throughout Louisiana, traveled thousands of miles, and she was invited to Washington, D.C.,
to attend the annual Mardi Gras ball presented by the Mystik Krewe of Louisianians; and
WHEREAS, Rachel provides inspiration for Louisiana's youth to set lofty goals and
work tirelessly to achieve them; and
WHEREAS, Rachel Elizabeth Schultz is to be congratulated for her many
achievements and for the tremendous honor she imparts to her family, to the city of
New Orleans, and to the state of Louisiana.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
commend and congratulate Rachel Elizabeth Schultz, the reigning seventy-sixth Greater
New Orleans Floral Trail Queen for 2012-2013, for her many accomplishments and talents
and does hereby extend its best wishes for continued success in her future endeavors.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
Rachel Elizabeth Schultz.
