Page 1 of 2 Regular Session, 2013 ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 113 BY SENATOR WHITE A RESOLUTION To commend the Central Private School baseball team on winning the Mississippi Association of Independent Schools Class AA State Championship. WHEREAS, the 2013 season got off to a rough start as the Central Private School baseball team lost their season opener to Parklane on a cold rainy night; however, that would be one of only four losses the Rebels would sustain the entire season; and WHEREAS, top highlights of the season included defeating rival and defending two-time state champions, Centreville Academy, three times during the regular season and two more times in the playoffs; and WHEREAS, Central Private also traveled to Memphis, Tennessee, to face some of the top high school teams in the country, winning their first three games before losing in the championship game to Christian Brothers of Memphis; and WHEREAS, the team won their district with an 11 and 1 record; and WHEREAS, Central Private swept each best of three series throughout the playoffs to capture the school's twelfth state championship; and WHEREAS, the Central Private School baseball team was led by Head Coach Jason Kinchen, who was assisted by Jamie Longmire and Travis Rose; and WHEREAS, throughout the year the Rebels were led offensively by Brad Miller (.443), Blake Benoit (.393), and Chase Martin (.346), while the pitching staff was led during the regular season by Chase Martin (9-0), Blake Chelette (6-0), and Brennan Fucich (9-1); and WHEREAS, other team members include Ryan Bowman, Mason Cockerham, Hunter Craig, Mitchell Garon, Phillip Green, Brice Harris, Andrew Hassel, Easton Holmes, Mason Jordan, Trey Kolb, Layton Laird, Logan Sampson, Adam Stafford, Jesse Summers, and Kris Templet; and SR NO. 113 ENROLLED Page 2 of 2 WHEREAS, four players have already signed to play college baseball, with more to follow, as Chase Martin has signed with the University of New Orleans, Blake Chelette with Bishop State Community College, Layton Laird with Baton Rouge Community College, and Brad Miller with LSU-Alexandria; and WHEREAS, the Rebels dedicated the season and were motivated by the loss of senior teammate Brice Harris as well as by the loss of Adam Stafford who was severely injured in a car accident during his freshman season. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana hereby commends and congratulates the players and coaches of the Central Private School baseball team on winning the MAIS Class AA State Championship. BE IT RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Head Coach Jason Kinchen. PRESIDENT OF THE SENATE
