A RESOLUTION1 To recognize April 22, 2013, as "Marathon Petroleum Corporation Day".2 WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, a company with a one hundred3 twenty-five year history, became an independent corporation listed on the New York Stock4 Exchange in 2011; and5 WHEREAS, health and safety, environmental stewardship, integrity, corporate6 citizenship, and an inclusive culture are core principles that guide Marathon Petroleum7 Corporation's approach to doing business; and8 WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation is the nation's fourth-largest9 petroleum refiner, with a total crude-distillation capacity of 1.69 million barrels per calendar10 day across its seven-plant refinery system, and distributes petroleum products via an11 extensive network of pipelines and terminals; and12 WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Garyville refinery, which13 commenced operations in St. John the Baptist Parish in 1976, is the last grassroots refinery14 built in the United States; and15 WHEREAS, the Garyville Major Expansion Project (GME), completed by Marathon16 Petroleum Corporation in 2009 at a cost of $3.9 billion, is one of the largest private-sector17 capital investments in Louisiana history; and18 SR NO. 12 SLS 13RS-514 ORIGINAL Page 2 of 3 WHEREAS, as a result of the GME and subsequent debottlenecking, the Garyville1 refinery has a crude-distillation capacity of 522,000 barrels per calendar day, ranking it as2 the third-largest petroleum refinery in the United States and the largest refinery in Louisiana;3 and4 WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Louisiana Refining Division is5 committed to safety and environmental stewardship, evidenced by the fact that the6 company's Garyville refinery is the nation's only petroleum refinery admitted to the U.S.7 Environmental Protection Agency's Voluntary Early Reduction Program for Air Toxics8 under the Clean Air Act, has been an Occupational Safety and Health Administration9 Voluntary Protection Program Star site since 1994, and has received fourteen Governor's10 Environmental Leadership Awards; and11 WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation, its subsidiaries and affiliates have a12 full-time Louisiana workforce of more than nine hundred dedicated and talented company13 employees, plus approximately six hundred skilled contractor employees; and14 WHEREAS, Marathon Petroleum Corporation's Louisiana Refining Division and its15 employees are actively involved in their communities through numerous volunteer efforts,16 including humanitarian aid and relief following Hurricane Isaac; partners in education with17 East St. John Elementary, Garyville Mt.
