SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 129

A RESOLUTION
To recognize the services of local school board members and local school superintendents
throughout the state of Louisiana and recognize Wednesday, May 29, 2013, as
"School Board Member and School Superintendent Recognition Day".
WHEREAS, the Louisiana School Boards Association (LSBA) strives daily to attain
its mission of leadership, service, and support for local school boards; and
WHEREAS, the Louisiana Association of School Superintendents (LASS) strives
daily to attain its mission of promoting strong and professional educational leadership; and
WHEREAS, the LSBA and LASS recognize that a world-class education can be
attained for Louisiana's students only through meaningful and sincere collaboration; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's local school boards help determine local, community goals
for the education of approximately 700,000 children in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade;
and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's 654 local school board members act as advocates for public
school students as they work with administrators, teachers, and parents for the betterment
of public education; and
WHEREAS, Louisiana's sixty-nine school superintendents work closely with school
boards and all educational stakeholders in the community for the overall betterment of public
education; and
WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents strive to provide the resources
necessary to meet the needs of all students, including those with special needs; and
WHEREAS, school boards and superintendents provide accountability to the public;
they communicate the needs of the school district to the public; and they convey to school
administrators the public's expectations for the schools; and SR NO. 129 ENROLLED

WHEREAS, the members of the Senate appreciate the important contributions of
locally elected school board members and the leadership of school superintendents.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby recognize the services of local school board members and local school
superintendents throughout the state of Louisiana and recognize Wednesday, May 29, 2013,
as "School Board Member and School Superintendent Recognition Day".
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all Louisiana citizens are urged and requested
to join the members of the Senate in observance of the day and to work with their local
boards of education and school superintendents toward the improvement of our children's
education.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
Louisiana School Boards Association and the Louisiana Association of School
Superintendents.
