SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 135
BY SENATOR THOMPSON
COMMENDATIONS. Commends the Mangham High School Dragons baseball team on
winning the 2013 Class 1A state tournament.
A RESOLUTION1
To commend the Mangham High School Dragons baseball team on winning the 2013 Class2
1A state tournament.3
WHEREAS, the number two seed Dragons and head coach, Scott Wilcher, are4
accustomed to being on the 1A state tournament stage; and5
WHEREAS, the reign of the state championships have belonged to private schools6
for the past twelve years until Mangham High scored a four-to-two victory over Central7
Catholic; and8
WHEREAS, the last public school to win the 1A title was Oak Grove in 2001, when9
the Tigers defeated St. Edmunds in a two-to-one victory; and10
WHEREAS, sophomore pitcher Ridge Heisler described the win as a dream, thinking11
it would never happen; and12
WHEREAS, in the past six years, the Dragons reached the state tournament four13
times, including two state title game appearances; and14
WHEREAS, in 2007, Mangham High School lost to Cavalry Baptist, three-to-two,15
and in 2009 to Northlake, one-to-zero, making them even more determined in this year's16
championship game where they found themselves down in the early innings; and17
WHEREAS, the Dragons continued to chip away and scratched across one run in the18 SR NO. 135

second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, to finally bring its first state baseball title home to1
Richland Parish; and2
WHEREAS, Coach Wilcher gives proper and due credit to his team and assistant3
coaches, determined to fight and work together to attain their win; and4
WHEREAS, Coach Wilcher convinced all Dragon team members that no opposing5
team was going to give them the win, the team would have to take the win; and6
WHEREAS, senior and designated hitter Dylan Ridgeway sent a solid message of7
stick-to-itiveness when he tied the game on a solo blast over the left field wall in the third8
inning; and9
WHEREAS, the Dragons continued their exciting victory after Mr. Ridgeway's home10
run, Cody Turner knocked in what proved to be the go-ahead run in the fourth inning on a11
sacrifice fly; and12
WHEREAS, a long awaited state championship belonged to the Mangham High13
School Dragons, leaving coaches, fans and the entire team speechless and truly proud; and14
WHEREAS, the accolades for the win go to principal Connie Williams, head coach15
Scott Wilcher, assistant coaches Joe Meeks, Todd Ridgeway and Jerry Ford along with the16
young men who compose the Mangham High School Dragons including seniors MVP Cody17
Turner, Dillon Santiago, Colton Monin, Chance Fleming, Luke Watts, and Garret Dye;18
juniors Lance Romero, Landon Hammons, Tyler Day, and Trey Cureington; sophomores19
Dustin Self, Casey Richardson, Will Gibson, Brair Prewitt, Jess Glass, Ridge Heisler, Tucker20
Armstrong, Dillon Harrison, Dylan Ridgeway, Will Hatwell, and Tim Washam, along with21
eighth graders Aaron Parker and Christopher Fleming.22
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana23
does hereby commend the Mangham High School Dragons baseball team on winning the24
2013 Class 1A state tournament.25
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to26
Mangham High School principal Connie Williams and Dragons head coach Scott Wilcher.27 SR NO. 135
